We've bought over $3650 Aust.worth of games over the past five years and my little nephew won't give video games a break. He practically plays them from the moment he gets home until he sleeps then all weekend. We try to get him away from them as much as we can but feel as though it's our fault because we used to play video games all of the time. He does do afternoon sports and watches a few cartoons before he goes to bed. But we're afraid he has too much of a video game addiction. He's only ten. Should we stop buying him games? What to do we've bought a wii and playstation 3 and also own and xbox and whole bunch of gamecube games. Is there anything we can do? Is it safe for kids to grow up this way?
My little brother is exactly like that and he started not doing homework, skipping school, faking sick, etc. to stay home and play games. He also turned into a spoiled little brat. I would suggest no games or tv until homework is done and then restricted play time for only 1-2 hours per day.
What starts out as a fun activity, can take over some lives. Some psychiatrists say video games are one of the big addictions of the decade and ...
if a person has a video game addiction, then how many hours a day on average will they play? 3 hours? 4?
You are only considered an addict if you play all the time and do not do anything else. All the time would probably be considered 4-8 hours a day.
I am completely addicted to video games - especially Simcity4, Age of empires II and IGI. I can't concentrate on my studies...I am worried about the future... Please help!
To quit something like drugs or alchohol, you get rid of the source of the addiction, right? So, get rid of the source here. Wipe the game off of your computer and walk away from it completely. ... find friends who are NOT hooked on or centered around this game and hang out with them so that you won't constantly be bombarded with talk of thie game , that will help alot. Where you used to spend all that time foccussed so completely on that one thing, now spend it elsewhere on more constructive things - things that you will later see a productive end from. Learn a hobby, take up a craft like painting or woodworking ( I know , it sounds lame, but it sure helped my Dad when he quit smoking. From 6 , yes, SIX packs a day , to NOTHING , and he took up woodworking as a hobby. You should see his stuff now!! Wow!! And its been over 30 years and he hasn't had a smoke since!!) I mean, imagine all the hours you've wasted in front of that silly game whenyou could have been learning to do something else that would be so totally cool to know how to do?! Play the saxx or guitar, photography or something else you find really cool. ( I ran short of ideas....)
If your a praying person, praying for strength and help is also beneficial. If you aren't, there will be some days you might want to become one! Addictions are HARD to overcome but CAN be done so.
ok..... i have played the world of warcraft since it as came out... i did play it way more then i should have but not at a really high rate...
i do think then can be an addiction to video games... my mom and dad thought i was just being dumb.... what do you guys think?
Yes, video game addiction is actually becoming quite a serious problem and more researchers are conducting studies to investigate the possibility.
Just recently, a professor at UC Irvine received a grant for $100,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to track addiction behaviors in World of Warcraft players.
I personally think video game addiction is very real, on a similar order to compulsive gambling. But since the direct adverse effects of playing games in excess aren't so obvious, people tend to think that the problem isn't as serious.
This is all types of video games. I used to be addicted to gaming, and whenever I come back to play (When it's one of those days where you can't go anywhere) a game, I get really addicted again. Can anyone find a solution that doesn't require stopping to play these games completely?
