For a research paper, I am looking into the controversial effects of video games have on people. More specifically, violence and video game addiction.
I am having trouble looking for some reliable sources. Can anyone please tell me if there are any creditable websites, books, study statistics, or newspaper articles that I can look at?
I would greatly appriciate it since I am quite curious about this topic.
Also check for educational journals at the library. This study has been done repeatedly. Ask your librarian unless you know how to get to the e-journals.
This is my report on the effects of video games on kids and teens.
I am doing an opinion essay on video game violence, and if the nature and level of violence in video games is becoming an increasing concern. I need three arguments, but I can't seem think of a last one. Here is what I have so far:
The nature and level of violence in video games is becoming an increasing cause for concern is primarily due to various research and studies done providing a potential link between violent video games and adverse behaviour among players, however, secondary concerns include the possible negative effects related to a child’s social development and the game play itself ensuing addiction and obsession among users.
I know there are three there, but I am uncertain about using the addiction one as it doesn't have a whole lot to do with VIOLENCE in video games. Anyone have any other ideas???? Much appreciated!!
You could also talk about how many games that are excessively violent (eg Manhunt) are meant for an older and more mature audience that is able to separate video games from reality (hence the M rating...such games are not meant for parents to buy for their kids). Also how those who are affected in such a way that they become more violent are predisposed to do so (and why they might be caused to carry out such violent actions...what triggers it).

violence in the video games is no problem...addiction to video games is. but as i see it, that all depends on each person's personality.
I have to write a paper in my psychology class and I plan to use Video gaming as the topic. How can I make it psychology. What is a good topic to support it. Like "Video game addiction in kids life" or something that sounds professional. No violence game. I want to write about the addiction of Maple Story. I have lots of little cousin's who are addicted to it and would not leave the room ever. Please help.
Go to your on-line library and search in Psych-Info. Look for studies that examine the effects of playing video games on specific outcomes such as grades, sleep, exercise, peer interaction, or all of the above.
You'll find something you will find worthy of expanding. If not there are lots of studies about television, maybe you can use these to propose as evidence to theorize what you think the effects might be and maybe suggest a good study design.
My thought is we are desensitized to violence in general. The worst version is the current wave of opinion regarding the use of nuclear weapons. Given the American addiction to quick solutions I can envision a mushroom cloud or a small forest of them.
I think it has been a gradual process including all of the above. Restart a video game and the same characters are there to be killed again. The guy we saw shot, stabbed, or beat to death on television is often on a program we watch within the same week and seems to be just fine. We hear that there is a war going on, but we really don't get to see the real images of war that would bring it home for people. All of those things must register in our brains on some level.
The same is true with the nuke situation. We used to see images of a nuclear test and we knew that the Soviet Union could bring those images into our own lives in a very short time. We also had images of our own destruction of two japanese cities and 300,000 people and we knew it could happen to us.
Now, people believe that we are the world's only super-power, and, as you said, they are addicted to quick solutions that make the problem go away with little effort. I guess people are starting to view the nuke as the war pill and are eager to take it regardless of the possible side effects.
I think our development of a missile defense shield despite previous agreements that we would not is clear evidence that our government expects to be attacked and to use those weapons again themselves.
