I think internet addiction is the same too.
Read this article...it says more than 15 percent of kids, 5 million American kids!!! are addicted.
Read the tell-tale signs...sadly not enough people/physicians take this seriously...

....
All good points people...I think though that we are becoming too withdrawn from social interaction and definitely exercise...it's hard when you can't tear yourself away from something...I find it's too easy to spend or "waste" time on certain things just because it's easy and comfortable. We need balance.
Any kind of addiction is a psychological disorder or disease. Then again, maybe there's just too much outside stress in peoples' lives and that's how they unwind, relax, are 'get away from it all'. It certainly is cheaper than going to the movies, going clubbing, or going on a trip.
Video games have invaded every corner of the earth, and now, some players are paying the consequences with full-blown cases of addiction. Story by ...

I sure do. My grandson would rather play them than work and this happens quite a bit. He's very good at them but doesn't bring in the bacon.

Couldn't believe this story...apparently two 21 and 23 year old parents of two children of age 11 and 22 months severely neglected their children due to an internet addiction of the online RPG Dungeons and Dragons. The children were near death before they were taken by social workers.

I thought maybe the chick would have a myspace since they're so internet savvy, and I was right.

Pretty sad. Prettay-prettay-prettay sad. White trash are embarrassments to caucasians everywhere. And where was the Reno Sheriff's Department? Officer Jones and Garcia should have been all over that.
It really is sad! Those poor babies! But I just don't understand how a couple can become THAT ingrossed in the internet and gaming?! It doesn't make any sense to me. I mean, I love the internet as much as the next addict.. but really... take care of your kids first!!!!
The article that was stated in yahoo today, http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20090420/hl_hsn/almost1in10youngvideogameusersaddicted
states 1 in 10 kids are addicted to video games. Being that I was brought up in a generation of videogames, I played a lot, and my parents felt that I had an addiction at 10 years old and throughout my teens. I'm 28 now and I have a normal job, went to college, live by myself, and my gpa is 3.5.
How accurate is this report? And how different is it from a gambling addiction? And is having a "video game" addiction as destructive as it's saying in this report as some other addictions?
I nearly forgot about Warcraft and Everquest... yeah those people are just crazy. I think that some...not all...people that play those games all the time are lacking something in their lives. But too much of anything is a bad thing right?
addiction is the state of being enslaved by any sort of habit, so of course there can be addiction to video games. addiction can be to ANYTHING. about it being just as destructive as say gambling, it depends on what the time playing video games is taking away. with gambling you can obviously lose all your money and ruin your life/marriage/ect. you were able to make the time to do well in school and get a job, so you obviously were able to give up plenty of your video gaming time to do this. i would say no addiction there, but for others it really could be a problem. like people who surround there life with games and won't get jobs.
ELYRIA, Ohio – A judge Monday rejected the defense that a teenage boy opened fire on his family because he was addicted to video games, convicting him of wounding his clergyman father and killing his mother after they fought over a video game.
Lawyers for Daniel Petric, 17, didn't contest that the boy shot his parents in October 2007, but insisted his youth and video game addiction made him less responsible. But Common Pleas Judge James Burge disagreed and pointed to evidence the boy plotted the crime for weeks.
Petric was convicted of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and other charges. He faces a maximum possible penalty of life in prison without parole. The judge didn't set a sentencing date.
Prosecutors said Petric planned to kill his parents because he was angry that his father would not allow him to play the video game "Halo 3," in which players shoot alien monsters that have taken over the Earth.
