I think internet addiction is the same too.
Read this article...it says more than 15 percent of kids, 5 million American kids!!! are addicted.
Read the tell-tale signs...sadly not enough people/physicians take this seriously...

All good points people...I think though that we are becoming too withdrawn from social interaction and definitely exercise...it's hard when you can't tear yourself away from something...I find it's too easy to spend or "waste" time on certain things just because it's easy and comfortable. We need balance.
Any kind of addiction is a psychological disorder or disease. Then again, maybe there's just too much outside stress in peoples' lives and that's how they unwind, relax, are 'get away from it all'. It certainly is cheaper than going to the movies, going clubbing, or going on a trip.
Short documentary on video game addiction.
Professionals are considering adding it to the DSM which is the diagnostic manual used by psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.
I read over a year ago of a boy in England who was being treated for video game addiction. I believe that addictions are all about abusing something--alcohol, sex, food, gambling, video games, etc.--trying to cover up for something important that's missing from their lives.
That's why the Anonymous groups have been so popular and grown so much in the last 60-plus years. AA, NA, OA, etc., helping people to recover and give up the addictions that cause them more problems and deal with whatever has been missing from their lives.

I sure do. My grandson would rather play them than work and this happens quite a bit. He's very good at them but doesn't bring in the bacon.
I know it is considered an actual medically diagnosable disorder by a lot of doctors. So, does anyone know which companies will put the money into a treatment center?
At the current time, video game "addiction" is NOT diagnosable (officially) in the DSM-IV-tr or the current version of the ICD.
Until that time, it is highly unlikely that any funding/grants would be issued to study and/or treat it. Companies invest in studies/treatment when it is potentially profitable. Until it is officially diagnosable (and then unofficially treatable), the vast majority of companies will not invest a dime in it.

okay..... PTSD happens when you have had something traumatic in your life.. hense the post TRAUMATIC stress disorder...
i haven't been diagnosed with PTSD, but I've been told that it's a POSIBILITY & i went through abuse from my father, watching him abuse my mother, being abused by my mother & dealing with her alchohol problems, as well as many suicide attempts & cutting.... that can be seen as trauma, but even with all that i haven't been diagnosed.. & out of the symtoms you listed i have over 10 of them..... chill out
feeling blue could be just something you're going through, maybe it's real depression
memory loss is something more associated with PTSD as your body tends to forget things that are seen as "traumatic" and it screws with your brain.. this happens to me regularly, but you just might have problems remembering things due to the depression & your loss of intrest
unorganization is a problem in many people's lives, it is not a sign of PTSD...
irritability - everyone has their days, you said you're stressed (which, may i add causes acne... as does PUBERTY) which may have something to do with this (and the depression and in turn just about everything else)
i'm going to stop now
go see a doctor if you're seriously worried about this..... but i assure you, it has NOTHING to do with video games.. & if it is, it's not PTSD.. maybe ADD/ADHD which usually happens when you're active on the computer/TV and multitasking a lot

The old geezers must have been worried that we’re playing World of Warcraft too much… or for most of us, maybe surfing ecchi websites too much. reSTART has opened America’s first clinic to heal patients with video game addiction, computer addiction and Internet addiction disorder. The clinic is located in Fall City, WA. Video game and Internet addiction disorder clinics already exist in China and the Netherlands.
The program, called the , costs $14,500 USD and is 45-days long. During the 45-days, patients receive psychotherapy, group counseling, nutritional education, personalized fitness plans and adventure outings.
The strategy is to remove patients from their video gaming, computer and Internet activities, and put them in a segregated location where they participate in various outdoor activities and develop everyday life skills.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report recently that concluded that gamers are more likely to be overweight and suffer mental health problems.

The medical nuts and bolts of addiction can be summed up as: the ability to impact neurochemical changes in brain chemistry. The chief neurotransmitters responsible for this brain “high” are most likely dopamine and norepinephrine. – (Greenfield, 1999)
It’s at that point when a simple action or process starts to become a habit and create certain unmanageability in your life. Unmanageable to me is not taking care of life’s responsibilities in order to continue said action or process and feeling unpleasant repurcussions. In this case we will choose video games as our medium of choice. It doesn’t matter what game, genre or brand name; simply a software game run by either a computer or video game console.
I choose ambivalence because I don’t want to waste my time on defending this game or that, just take the whole ball of wax at face value. Just keep it simple.
