I understand this is a serious problem. Do you think you know any prevention techniques?
Have other healthy interests. reading some kind of hobby that doesn't involve the TV at all. If a person always has things to do chances are they will devote less time to playing games. I'm fairly balanced when it comes to gaming, but if I have a book that I'm really into I wont even touch my consoles.

Break Hide or Sell the system you play it for. After withdrawal breaks them they will heal and find anew.
many people (mostly young men and teens) are addicted to video games. this is a serious issue and affects the addicts' health, jobs, relationships and school work. How can we prevent and treat this serious issue?
This is not an addiction, its a choice. That word has been thrown around extremely to much. It is used as an excuse. There is absolutely no addiction to video games, although it may seem that some ppl are. I for one LOVE playing video games and I will stay up all night and day playing games. It however, does not effect my work, relationship, or social life. If it did I could do something about it, just like ANYONE who you say has an "addiction" can do. Anyone can just stop playing, its not hard and it is very very possible. If they let themselves get so bad that it is affecting their life in a negative manner then they themselves should have the self control to stop letting it interrupt their life, if they do not have the self control then the hell with them thats their own problem. If someone isnt responsible enough to put their life in front of a video game then thats not someone I would waste helping.
Alot of kids, however, do not know better, and this is not the kids fault it is simply the parents fault. I know my dad used to MAKE me go outside all freakin day on any warm day and make me socialize and find things to do. He wouldnt allow me to waste my life on nintendo when I could be out playing baseball/basketball/football anything of that sort. Dont punish the kids b/c their parents dont know what their doing. Parents need to learn how to control their kids anyways (without drugging them b/c over half of the time that is unnecessary). Its not hard, you are the freakin parent they do as YOU say, not what they want.
This CAN be a serious problem and may affect health, work and schoolwork. What are some possible solutions?
When I was young, my dad would always tell me that the amount of time I spent on the computer, I'd have to spend double the time doing homework or practicing my maths. For example, I spend 2 hours on the computer, later I would have to spend 4 hours doing work! It often worked because I hated maths.
Studys have been done. it has been proven and correlated. many people use it as an escape. THEYRE ADDICTED. they cant just throw it out. i like video games, but am not addicted. i need suggestions for a project. any of you former addicts, id appreciate
I used to have it baaad for Ratchet and Clank on the PS2, so bad my grades started dropping like dead birds. I confronted my mom and she took my power cable from the PS2. Too avoid complete break-down on my part she would let me play for varied times on weekends, decreasing so moderatly and then she just stopped, Voila, Cured.

Back in 1991 there was a Microsoft video game called “Gorillas” that featured two angry apes tossing explosive bananas at each other while standing above a city skyline.
Today, the 800-pound gorilla in the room is addiction to video games. As a parent, you already know if gaming is causing problems for your child and your family. And the gorilla that nobody wants to acknowledge is far more menacing than the pair of pixilated primates in that 18-year-old strategy game.
Technological advances in computer gaming have grown by leaps and bounds in the nearly two decades since “Gorillas” arrived on the scene, and so have the number of players addicted to computer gaming.
The video games of today are so much more complex – and captivating – than those of decades past, and they range from massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) to simple games like the Mario Bros. series that have stood the test of time. One of the most popular of these multiplayer megagames is “World of Warcraft,” an extremely addictive game that is sometimes called “World of Warcrack” because it draws gamers to it like a street corner drug dealer. Blizzard, the creator of “WoW” claims there are 8 million Warcraft players worldwide – and 3.5 million of those gamers are in China.

Unreported incident. “ Faith Fighter ” is an online video game featuring various religious figures in combat, including Muhammad. It attracted considerable attention and controversy, but was removed after the Organization of the Islamic Conference [OIC] threatened the game’s producers.
The American television channel G4 describes itself as “the one destination on television that feeds your addiction for the latest must-have tech gadgets, web culture and video games.” It was not surprising, therefore, when it ran a 45-second “Indie Games” spot about “Faith Fighter” during a commercial break of the premier episode of the show “Web Soup” on June 7, 2009.
The brief spot summarized the game and its controversial nature, and the announcer, Kevin Pereira, mentioned the playable characters by name, noting that one could play as God, Jesus, Buddha, Ganesha and Budai....
