What are the symptoms of Computer/Video Game Addiction?

My boyfriend plays alot of his computer game (10 hours a day, approx.) And i was wondering if theres any actual symptoms of the video game addiction? If so, what are they, besides the obvious, of playing alot, and neglecting houswork/school work, any others? Thanks!
he did quit his job about a month ago.... (a day before his game came out) but he goes to school at night time, but he normally doesnt go to all of them... only one or two of them and then comes home.

10 hours a day sounds a bit extreme. only other ones i can think of is neglect to family and friends, everyday activities such as bathing and eating, and not working or doing school, or any work for that matter by choosing to play the game instead. damn. tell him "Playing video games wont feed our future baby!" lol jk. tell him to get a job as a video game tester. he'll love that and it pays up to 80 an hour!

How do you stop a computer game/ video game addiction?

I need to stop playing video games and playing on the computer so much. How can I stop myself?

Addiction to anything is very hard to overcome, especially if it's not something that's directly affecting your health. I'm sure though that it is probably affecting your family life, social life, and I have heard of people getting arthritis and carpal tunnel from playing games too much.

I know of somebody who spent his days and night playing a game on his computer and had to eventually learn how to play with his left hand because he damaged his right one so badly. I know it is hard to let go of anything that brings you comfort and happiness even if it is affecting your life in negative ways. Try going to this blog, it is very helpful and you can contact the writer and get support.

Good luck!

Ridding myself of a computer/video game addiction?

I find it very difficult to occupy myself unless I'm on a computer/video game of some sort. I think its safe to say I'm addicted, so if anyone has some suggestions/ideas as to how I can break this, please help.

aside from chucking the computer out of the window, you have to exert will power... go outside, read a book, clean your room, bake some cookies, plant a garden, play solitare with actual cards, find other things to do to occupy your time, to minimize your obsession with games...

I need advice about stopping my computer game addiction, help?

I'm a 19 y/o college student at a fairly prestigious college and I just can't seem to quit playing computer games. It's really taking over my life! It all started with World of Warcraft. I played it for hours on end last year and it really screwed my grades up. I finally managed to quit, thinking that Call of Duty 2 was any better. I was mistaken and I am currently just as addicted to CoD2 as I was to WoW. I don't have any problems with socializing and I'll go out with friends fairly often, but I often play games as soon as I get back to my dorm room. I need some advice from ex-gamers and other people who are familiar with this problem of video game addiction. Help me please!

You have made the first step and that is admitting that you have a problem.
Sit down and make a schedual for your life. Limit your game time. Get out and go to the guy, or hang out with friends. Get a part time job. You might need to stop cold turkey. And learn that your life doesn't stop just because you aren't gaming.

Another thing is that when you have an addiction.......you need to replace it with a good habit. Something else that will give you the buzz that you get from playing your games.

Tell yourself that you have power over the game and it is time for them to NOT have power over you. When you feel compelled to play. so set your alarm clock or a timer for 15 minutes, if you still want to play then play. But, it often breaks your urge and you can get into something else.

Help I am a video game/ warcraft/ computer/ internet addict HOW DO I STOP!!?

I am totally addicted to the computer, war craft, video games, and the internet. The video game addiction started six years ago, I played my first console video game and was hooked. The War craft addiction started last year when I received War craft as a birthday present. And the computer/ internet addiction, well that started only recently (like 7 or 8 months ago). I am so addicted that when I wake up (which is usually early like 6-7 a.m.) I will go on the computer for up to 3 hours until I get hungry and go downstairs to get food and start the day. I need help to not become addicted!!

perfectly normal.

i have the same thing, but im stopping now.

they thing i do is, im starting to go out more often, play pool or bowling whatever.

in the internet, i just try to go onto forums or some photoshop instead ot my usual dota or tower defence on warcraft bnet.

its just a phase your going through, i was a major hardcore gamer, now im just a hobbyist on the computer, soon you will get bored and then stop, since your playing for a long time.

  • What is computer and video game addiction?

When time spent on the computer, playing video games or cruising the Internet reaches a point that it harms a child's or adult's family and social relationships, or disrupts school or work life, that person may be caught in a cycle of addiction. Like other addictions, the computer or video game has replaced friends and family as the source of a person's emotional life. Increasingly, to feel good, the addicted person spends more time playing video games or searching the Internet. Time away from the computer or game causes moodiness or withdrawal.

When a person spends up to ten hours a day or more rearranging or sending files, playing games, surfing the net, visiting chat rooms, instant messaging, and reading emails, that easily can reach up to seventy to eighty hours a week on-line with the computer. Major social, school or work disruptions will result.
