How can we stop video game addiction?

Many kids and even teens are addicted to video games. This is a serious problem and can affect the child's physical, emotional and social health. He/ she does not play sports (usually), may not have friends and does bad in school. If anyone has any advice or comments please leave them. I may do a project on this topic.

Parents can limit their time playing for one thing. Kids need to be encouraged to have many interests.

Video Game Addiction - who realizes how bad this is becoming?

I know quite a few people addicted to popular mmorpg's - I mean, addicted to the point of neglecting friends, family, children, etc. Is anyone else noticing people in their lives affected by video games to the point where they never leave their house and are constantly in front of the computer screen? What are you all doing about it?

Yes, I know a couple people who have a serious addiction to an online game. One of the people rarely leaves her house, she doesn't call anyone anymore, she even neglects her son. The other day her son told me that his mother only cares about the computer, it was very sad to hear. The problem is she doesn't care, and won't realize how much this game is hurting her life and the people who love her. It's really a huge shame what these games do to people.
These type of mmo online games are ruining society - people don't feel the need to socialize in real life anymore because they have "online" friends. It's all quite ridiculous. I miss those days when you could go out with people and no one was like "oh I have to stay home and play a game because..." It's all so sad.

Child neglect due to...online video game addiction???

Couldn't believe this story...apparently two 21 and 23 year old parents of two children of age 11 and 22 months severely neglected their children due to an internet addiction of the online RPG Dungeons and Dragons. The children were near death before they were taken by social workers.

I thought maybe the chick would have a myspace since they're so internet savvy, and I was right.

Pretty sad. Prettay-prettay-prettay sad. White trash are embarrassments to caucasians everywhere. And where was the Reno Sheriff's Department? Officer Jones and Garcia should have been all over that.

It really is sad! Those poor babies! But I just don't understand how a couple can become THAT ingrossed in the internet and gaming?! It doesn't make any sense to me. I mean, I love the internet as much as the next addict.. but really... take care of your kids first!!!!

How do you deal with husbands video game addiction?

my husband and father to our two children has what I deem a serious video game issue he spends every waking moment on the computer playing WOW, he stays up some times all night playing his game, then he wont get up int the morning and help with the kids. our eight year old asked me the other day why "dad" likes his game more than him.

I use to be the same way, addicted to the comp and x-box... However I can tell u it will die down... It did take sometime about 8 months for it to start to get old... I would tell ur hubby what ur son said cuz that alone should affect him and maybe that will help kick it into gear... I know it would me... Good luck

What should I do about my husband's video game addiction?

We constantly argue over it, he can't control how much time he spends playing or obsessively reading reviews or about new games that are to come out. He's so immature and never takes my feelings into account. What he says is most important to him always comes last (me and his children). He's always fighting for himself and his selfish needs, and I'm always fighting for US- and trying to work out our marriage. I'm so tired of it, I think I'm ready to just up and leave him, I deserve better than what he's choosing to give me.

First of all, it's not that he can't control it. It's that he won't.

Lay it out for him. He needs to step up to his real life responsibilities.

There is no possible scenario where he'll be on his deathbed thinking "I wish I'd gotten to the next level in Quake." There are plenty where he'd say "I wish my kids loved me enough to be here right now, if only I'd been more of a father to them."
