What are good sources on video game addiction and violence?

For a research paper, I am looking into the controversial effects of video games have on people. More specifically, violence and video game addiction.

I am having trouble looking for some reliable sources. Can anyone please tell me if there are any creditable websites, books, study statistics, or newspaper articles that I can look at?

I would greatly appriciate it since I am quite curious about this topic.

Also check for educational journals at the library. This study has been done repeatedly. Ask your librarian unless you know how to get to the e-journals.

Need a book where the character has some sort of game addiction?

It's for my english class. I need a book where the character has a gaming addiction; doesn't have to be video games, just some game. It doesn't have to be the main topic in the story but there has to be something about the addiction in it. Any help? I can't find anything
Just looked at the "No Limit" book, it looks perfect for the project that I'm doing, but no one around where I am sells that book. I need it soon, any other suggestions?

"No Limit" by Pete Hautman is about a teenager who plays poker and discovered that he likes it. Worse yet, he likes it, he's good at it, and he wins. But in the winning, he loses his girlfriend, his best buddies, and his relationship with his divorced parents. In the end, he wins big. And he sits there with his winnings, alone.

It is a great book. My sophomore class read it and then did some research on teenage gambling. With the Tribal Casinos in our state, many students want to go and play tournament poker. This books shows the dark side of playing. There is more to lose than money.

Video game addiction?

I'm currently in high school 10th grade and i think i had been addicted to videogames since i was in 8th or 7th grade. I would usualy go home at 3 right after school and play for 3 hours straight till 6. I usually start my homework at 7:30 but I tend to go on Warcraft 3 and start playing. However, I'm also working on my math usually while playing. Since I tend to care about winning my game more than homework at the time, I often look at the back of my textbook and copy the answrs. But when the test comes I fail it. I know this is a bad habit and my grades are slipping now. What is the real problem my gaming or my habit of copying the back of the book? I don't know how to solve my ways, so please give me suggestions. Thanks >.<

I wouldn’t quit call it an addiction. As most high school students care more about fun the school work. I used to do it all the time, because of one simple reason, games are more fun and hold your attention longer. As for your study habits, do what I do. Remove yourself from all environmental distractions. Go do your homework some place where there isn’t a TV, computer, cd player, etc… This should help you focus a little more

How do I break my addiction to unhealthy habbits, such as video games and television?

Even when I have something really important that I have to do (homework being the main one) I'll often times choose the controller over the book. It has become really detrimental to my grades and life in general. Please help! I need to break the addiction!

call a friend and do homework together
or take a walk or go have a cup of
java together

  • Library Time- the video game problem

I HATE the library computers in the kids' area. We go to the library less frequently because of them. Our first strategy was to go the library but not do computers. My kids would watch other kids play, which was the same thing. I couldn't read to the kdis or help them get books because Martin and Maddie would sneak onto the computer. It made library time difficult, but overall worked out alright.

I have the same problem at the library! Jackson has just discovered these video games, and so now we have to make rules about whether the library is going to be video game day or not. It's so hard and I commiserate with you. Sometimes if I have to think about all the things I have to do as a mom to make sure my kids are active, happy, smart contributing members of society, I get so overwhelmed. You are a great mom! Good luck!
