I love playing online video games on my computer, but I play over(my parents tell me to stop but I don't)a lot. I know I should stop but for some reason I just have to keep on playing. Why are they so addictive and can someone help me make my addiction go away?

wow such good answers and btw even tho i wanna spend mony on online games my parents dont let me. i play the free online games but u can use ur mony on it its optional. so i dont use mony on teh online games

I don't know why it's so addicting but I was addicted to it myself for a few years.

eventually i cut off my internet access and went cold turkey, it was hard but I got through it.

I suggest you move your PC into a family room, get it out of the bedroom where you'll always be tempted.

the hard part is if you're like me, all your friends are online too, so it's harder to quit, try to organise a day with them outside of the house, like to the movies or go paintballing.

if you really do want to quit talk to your parents about it, they'll be able to help you too.

try chaning your net access to dialup speeds, that'll put a choke on online gaming

I like to go out and do outside activities like rock climbing, parachuting, jet skiing and camping but every one says they rather be at home playing video games then go out doing that stuff. what do they get out of video games that they don't get out of the real life action? Sorry im not a gamer.

It's a way to forget about the real world, it's for fun/entertainment from both or either of the story or the gameplay (beat'em up, simulation (in this case, 'toony or semi-realistic sim games are more fun to play than 100% realistic ones), the collecting/archiving parts of games, etc, It's different for everyone.

It's mostly as a fun hobby (or more serious than that) as well as it being outrageous, like for comparison; action movies. Rewarding and fun to watch/play because of said hyper reality.

Also, the graphics/motion capture in some games make it more entertaining than say a game with good/alrightgraphics but the movements of the characters is really jerky and bad, making the time spent playing said game boring and not worth coming back to beat X mission or whatever.

People say that video games are really addictive, why do they say that?

Some games give you abilities to do the imposible or just things you dream about doing. So of course you are going to be addicted! For example: Who doesn't what to be invisible/ fly or walk through walls?

Also they can help to release anger. Somtimes it's the exact opposite though.

Plus they can give you a sense of accomplishment. I know everytime i'd beat a game i'd be like oh yea who's good?

I don't know why I am not happy with the games that I already have. I keep on wanting more. Anyone else in my shoes who feels like they never have enough games or systems? IS it a bad thing to be so into games?

if you think that being into games affects your life in a bad way its a bad thing and its not good to play too much
yes video games can be addictive
and if you get everything you want there will be no end
spend sometime outdoors to keep your mind off video games
