I think my girlfriend is lying to me. She told me that she has been trying to get off of Seroquil and has to go to the hospital for "detox" 5-7 days. My brother is a psychiatry resident and told me that withdrawal from seroquil does not require detox and a 5-7 day period is used for withdrawal from heroin or opiates. I suspect she is not telling me the truth and said that she was going to be violently ill and I couldn't visit her. A 5-7 day stop in the hospital where you get violently ill sounds like withdrawal from methadone, not seroquil. What do you think?

Your brother is correct. Seroquel (an antipsychotic) does not require "detox", nor would she become violently ill from discontinuing it. Benzos, alcohol or opiates are each possibilities, however.

Hi, i have just started on a methadone programme for Opiate drug addiction. I know very little about methadone, i want to know what dose people take and for what? also how long it is used for? i've heard a lot of people say they've been on it for years and i find that quite disheartening, it just seems like i am swapping one drug addiction for another! I also want to know of it's success rate for leaving patients clean of all drugs long term? If anyone has ANY helpful information about Methadone treatment i would really appreciate it. I don't know anyone personally who has been through a methadone program so it would be great to hear anything from people who have had firsthand experience with Methadone. I feel about out of my depth here and need some advise! Thanks in advance.

The time methadone is used to detoxify an addict from an opiate addiction depends on two things, the particular opiate that one is addicted to, and the severity of the addiction meaning how often they use, and how much they use. Also methadone treatments are not the only method to treat, and detoxify from opiate addiction. See here:

Gard23 has good advice concerning the Ashton manual. You have to be careful discontinuing Xanax. Xanax belongs to one of only three classes of drugs on earth that can kill you from the withdrawal symptoms. Not even heroin, crack, etc can kill you from withdrawals. Xanax definately can.

I recently detoxed myself of a 4 yr opiate addiction. Although the hard parts over im still having trouble with RLS, Insomnia, and major anxiety. Any HERBAL-Safe-Non Addictive remedies?

Valerian for anxiety. Also GABA for anxiety. Drink tons of chamomile tea. Always have some with you either hot or cold. Try Benedryl for sleep.

I am 19 and about to come off of a 1 year opiate addiction. (Percocet, Hydrocodone) I was taking AT LEAST 10-14 percocet or hydrocodone (depending on strength) each time (bout 2-4 times a day)
I have told my family and we have all decided to put me in Rehab. and thank goodness my family is going to pay for it. I would be on the streets in another month if I kept on.
Anyways...
Will it be easy to start off with Methadone detox? Has anyone gone through this before? What Happend?

I have never been through this but have an opinion. If it were me, I'd go "cold turkey" in a medical detox if needed. It takes just 3-5 days to get most substances out of your system. I would not continue with putting more drugs in your body (Methadone). You need to be drug free, make it happen. Best wishes with your recovery, you can do it. God bless.
