Is there any local rehab or drug centres in the manchester /Oldam vacinity where my son can be admitted to treat his heroine addiction. He says he is not injecting, would he just be smoking it? I am quite niave when it comes to drugs. Thanx

And second - it's probably best if your son seeks rehab away from home. That doesn't mean he shouldn't move back when he's done, but rehab can be better away from home.

You should look at facilities all over. There are a lot of great programs in California, and the nice weather is always a benefit.

He can get through it in 30-90 days, plus a detox period and he'll have a chance at a normal life again.

family support is important, so make sure you get him in a program as soon as possible. Procrastination is really not an option when it comes to this.

Meet people deep in the throws of a heroin addiction, with no way out.

I wanted to know if it is normal for a heroin addict that is quitting heroine to lose their appetite for foods? and if there is any way you can help it? please give any information, someone in my family is having this problem! (we went to the doc's already)

It is nornal. It is also best if you can get that person to seek a medical specialist about kick off the habit as it is not advisable to do it alone. Encourage him, tell him eating food is better than thinking off drugs. Cook his favourite food. Ask him to eat less but more meals.

Trying to find some stats. Can people use any of these drugs without a high risk of addiction?

Heroine has the highest addiction rate. But all the other drugs really depend on the user's brain chemistry and personality. If you have an extremely addictive personality, then you could become addicted to pot or booze, or even things having nothing to do with drugs. Becoming addicted to cocaine....give me a break! it doesn't feel that good to spend so much money on and complicate your life over. And meth....well it can become addictive; most especially if you're immersed in that kind of lifestyle...surrounded by those kinds of people.

What are some of the reasons people start taking heroine...

I am writing a novel and the central character had a heroine addiction (this is key to the story) and i wanted the reasons behind it to be believable.

I'm a recovered alcoholic who went into rehab in 2006 where I met addicts of all grades of drugs, I now work in rehab myself so I've got a pretty good understanding of whats going on.

Every heroin addict I ever met started off like me with alcohol, then progressed to cannabis and then heroin and/or cocaine, just like Ben here:

Forget the usual excuses about poverty, parents, social deprivation and most of the other ones mentioned by the previous answerer.

Heroin addiction like alcoholism no social or interlectual boundaries, I have three AA friends locally who are successfull business millionaires, two doctors and a nun.

I came from a good background with no problems as a youngster but became an alcoholic, Ben was much the same but followed the all too familiar path to heroin, I'm just lucky that I'm 67 now, and drugs just were not available when I was young otherwise I would more than likely have gone the same way.

You need to speak to people and go to a rehab. A drug like heroine is very addictive and almost imposable to leave on your own

Congrats, for saying you want to stop have taken the right step in becoming drug free.
