I keep on hearing from my mom that engaging in drugs would only make me dumber and give me HIV?AIDS. She knows I've been hanging out with some people who do drugs. I haven't tried it, but I'm just curious. I get the dumbing down part, the HIV part, I don't get. What does that have to do with heroin or other drugs?
Truth is, drug abuse and HIV/AIDS are almost inseparable. This is because there is a proliferation of drug paraphernalia sharing. Tourniquets, needles, cotton swabs and cookers are being used by those who do drugs and thus make it easy for the other person to become inflicted with the disease, especially because the virus is easily transmitted to another person by an infected blood or body fluid's contact with an uninfected person's mucous membranes, blood, or broken skin. Also, a person who is under the influence of drugs may have very little control of his own actions. This can cause him to be particularly impulsive and uninhibited, therefore causing him to make rash decisions. This can lead to him performing unsafe sexual activities like performing the intercourse with an infected partner. Once the patient is infected with HIV, this further dulls the brain and puts the individual's life in grave danger.
I hope you don't try drugs. It's not worth the risk and the trouble you'll put yourself in.

I have had a drug(heroin) addiction for many years now and have on several occassions rehabilitated and relapsed several months later could anyone please give me some advice on how to stop the relapse from happening.
What you need to do is focus on what is really causing you to relapse. The only answer to why you keep relapsing is what is causing you to want to use again. If it's boredom, try going to meetings, or try to call your sponsor if you have one, even as far as just take a walk or meditate. If it's depression, what's making you feel depressed and what can you do to snap yourself out of it? I know personally when the cravings begin and I think I want to relapse and go back to my old habits, I think about the consequences of what I'm doing. Think it all the way through. Imagine the legal consequences, the family, the pain, the anger. Go past just the feeling of using. There's nothing in life that you can't get past by just thinking it through. Don't dwell on the negatives of life, but on what's going right. You can stay sober, you have the option to never touch the stuff again, you just need to give yourself a little push now and again to remind that.
a loved one who has money is looking for a good place to start over in life and try sober living
Heroin addiction can harm your health. Many everyday people have lost jobs, homes, and loved ones simply because they could not beat thier heroin habit. I suggest you seek some help. I found a site that has addiction information and a list of addiction treatment centers so you can help. http://www.addictionselfhelp.com

I get on the right path and am praying and everything is going well, and then I due to lonleiness and being on my own find myself slipping back to old ways. How do I stop this from happening?
Start going to NA, CA, or AA. One day at a time you can get clean. With a 12 step program you will have the spiritual tools to live without dope. When you spend your time doing things with people who are clean and sober after awhile you will lose the desire to slip into old ways. My prayers are with you.
Easy does it.
