Ive BEEN addicted to meth. Most people say not to substitute another drug for meth after you quit. I say, do whatever you have to to stop using. Smoke weed or drink more... whatever keeps you off the tweak is good. STOP HANGING OUT WITH TWEAKERS. You may not realise how many people you know that use. You have to cut them out of your life completely to quit. Meth is too adicitive to keep connections with people who still use. The "treatments" for curing a meth addiction are willpower and suppoer from friends. Period. Oh, and there is a great program called Crystal Meth Anonymous that can help you acheive that. There are meetings in all areas. If you or someone you know is addicted to meth, do all you can to get them off as soon as you can.

Cold turkey. You will sleep a lot at first, and you will need to discipline yourself not to overeat, but it's quicker and more effective than tapering off. Besides, once you've been through cold turkey once, you don't want to have to do it again, which gives you incentive to stay off the stuff.
Good luck!
With all the hype about meth addiction and it's evils you would think it would be easy to find help. Not so far.
I have been looking for a free, or cheap, non faith based, non 12 step meth addiction outpatient program in the Phoenix Metro area. Something with counselling and medical supervision would be ideal. I cannot afford to not be working since I am self employed. I need to quit, and want to be clean. The cycle must be broken. Does anybody know how to help?
The only non-god treatment I know of is the AA version for drug addicts. If attending AA, you must remember that it calls for belief in YOUR higher power, not God. I have friends who attend AA who have nothing to do with any god. I don't know anything about the US programs, but in Canada we have 5 day, free Initial treatment - detox. centers. They provide medical treatment while the initial detox occurs and then help place a person in a treatment facility that is longer term. They are all AA based.
I have researched until my fingers are numb. Trying to find detox using ibogaine, prometta, or other anti craving drug in New Mexico. Willing to do clinical trials, inpatient, detox w/outpatient. help I am trying tosave my life. stage 1 cirrosis.
There isn't an alternative treatment that I know of for meth addiction. I believe that the most affective treatment is behavior modification and detoxification. Both need at least a year to be successful. I have included a site to help you if you want below.
Good luck to you or anyone who is trying to beat this ugly monster!
I was recently convicted of forgery in march and sentenced to 4 years probation and ordered to pay restitution ($600) I lied to the courts and said i didnt have a substance abuse problem. I am again being charged with the same crime(i wrote out checks on my ex boyfriends account while i was under the influance of meth). I knew i had a problem because i couldnt stop no matter how hard i tried. After i was arrested in July of this year i put myself on a waiting list at a local treatment center and graduated thier Intensive rehab treatment program after 8 weeks. I go to 5 self help groups a week and attend AA/NA meeting regularly and also meet with a counselor once a week. Recently i excepted a managing position at a cell phone company and am putting my life back together. i am residing in a half way house and have been clean for almost 6 months. The prosecuter in my case wants me to go to prison. my sentencing date is December 7th 06. does anyone know anyone that has been in my situation
The problem is that you committed a second offense, and you were on probation.
It all depends on the judge, and how forcefully your lawyer (if you have one) can argue and convince the judge that the forgeries were related to your meth addiction, but that now you are clean.
Another minor problem is that you did not admit your meth addiction for your first offense. The prosecutor could argue that you are using the meth addiction as an excuse for your second crime.
It is a tough one. My guess is that you could get a suspended sentence, meaning that if you break the law again during the probation, you will go to prison for the term that was suspended.
Because you have a job and you are clean, the judge might order you to go to jail on weekends. This seems like the most likely scenario, particularly if you do not have a long criminal record, and if you do not have a violent past.
If you do not have an attorney, request that an attorney be assigned to you at your sentencing hearing.

bMethamphetamine Addiction Treatment/b
Methamphetamine is the second leading drug threat in the U.S., according to the U.S. National Drug Threat Assessment 2009, released by the National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC). Cocaine, another stimulant, is number one. Over the past 10 years, methamphetamine has become one of the most widely abused street drugs. Treatment for meth addiction is complex and evolving. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is currently funding research to develop medications for treating stimulant addiction (cocaine and methamphetamine). But there is no one-size-fits-all treatment for meth addiction. And the treatment process requires a long-term commitment.
Primary Treatment
An individual addicted to methamphetamine has a chemical dependency that comes with a high risk of permanent brain damage and is potentially fatal. The best type of primary treatment for methamphetamine addiction, according to experts, is in an extended care residential treatment center. Primary treatment involves detoxification followed by a multi-disciplinary treatment process. A minimum of a 30-day primary treatment program is recommended, to be followed by comprehensive aftercare programs and services.
...bMeth Addiction/b Questions
1. Where do I start?
You can start by knowing you are not alone. Meth Kills is one place to start.
2. What are signs of meth use?
You might notice an unusual chemical smell on the clothes or the person’s body. (Some have described the smell as similar to cat urine.) The person may seem very jittery or unable to stay still. There will be changes in behaviors such as missing school or work, mood swings and irrational behaviors. The person may engage in unusual body motions, rapid talking or rapid movements. There might be actions like going on a cleaning frenzy or engaging in a repetitive activity. This is called “tweaking”. There will also be loss of interest in typical activities such as sports or hobbies. Look for unusual skin breakdown (e.g. rashes and sores).
>Heavy meth use is indicated by paranoid behavior such as the person imagining they are being followed. A meth user will often stop eating. You’ll get excuses like, “I stopped for a hamburger – I’m not hungry.” Typically there will be dramatic, initial weight loss and the meth user may wear extra layers of clothing to hide it. Meth use is also characterized by an inability to sleep, although during a coming down phase ("the crash") there can be excessive sleeping. Finding empty small, clear plastic bags or pieces of such bags, on the floor, in drawers or in clothing also indicates meth use.
