I am a mother of a 34yr old son who has stopped taking meth but is suffering from depression , and short attention spans. Does anyone have more info for me about what it feels like once you stop? I am clueless about the withdrawal?

I think the best thing for you to do would be to seek professional help for your son. Withdrawals from hard drugs like Crystal Meth can be very tricky and can cause emotional problems for the victim's family. If you checked him into rehab (for example), however, there would be a professionally trained staff that would know what was best for your son and how to cure. I suggest you do some research online and try to find a good rehab center for your son. Sites like recoveryconnection.org are a good place to start. Trust me, when your son is completely drug-free, you'll be glad you did.

My son is 34 and I have not seen him for 5 yrs, he now has come home for help, he is so depressed, (up and down) I am trying to be very supportive and get him Counceling. I'm just not sure how a recovering meth addict acts after withdrawal? I am so happy and scared at the same time.

the withdrawal is bad enough to throw you right back into the addiction.
i've also recovered from a heroin addiction...
and between the two, the heroin addiction was more painful to recover from, but the meth addiction was definitely more difficult.

i hate to be a damper, but don't put all your eggs in one basket here.

keep him away from any sort of temptation relative to the drug... or any drug for that matter. find a temporary replacement for it (for me, the mixture of painting, music, and smoking cigarettes just about worked), methheads need to keep very busy. but he will also want to sleep a lot. it's pretty much the same recovering from anything, you just want to sleep away the pain and the headaches, shakes, sickness... some even get so depressed they turn to suicide. don't let him watch shows like Intervention ( i still get strange urges to this day when i watch that show), or movies that involve drug use. it's best if he drops communication from all of his friends, namely the ones who supported his habit.

however,
don't be too surprised if he runs back to the drug, just don't (major emphasis here) give up on him. he needs you.
my mom was the ONLY person who did not give up on me.
and she was the only single reason i made it through.

My son said his friend who is supposedly addicted to ectasy will be getting an implant placed right under the skin. If he takes ectasy again, he will not be affected by the drug at all.....I told him I didn't believe such a thing exists. If it were true, I'd sure we'd all know about this. Anyone ever hear such a thing?

I'm an alcohol and drug counselor and I have NEVER heard of it!

I need to know if my sons attitude is related to his meth addiction

Impulsive, bad sleep patterns will be awake for days on end, excitability, loose interest in things that they use to find entertaining, dramatic decline in physical appearance, repeats motor activities, complains of chest pain ( in EMS we call it methacardia) its not cardiac related.
