The subject in question is a 40 yr. old gay male. He has had significant lose in his adult years, death, repressed memories of childhood sexual abuse, drug addiction and bi-polar disorder.

Well, with Meth addiction, I don't think you have any other option but rehab. It can be quite difficult to break the addiction from Meth, but it can be done. It will take a lot of faith and hope in the subject in question. Meth is one of the hardest drug addiction battles to win, but the battle can be won. It sounds like the subject in question has a lot of battles to try to win and overcome. Bipolar disorder, however is something that must be treated with medication and therapy. I would advise this person if he is currently taking meds for this condition, to stay on them until he has a consultation with his doctor. I hate it for him and everything he has been through. A good therapist would work wonders with him, but he want get well overnight. It will take some time. A lot of addicts repress their worst memories and blame this for their addictions. Get help and don't wait. Everyday that goes by, is a day your not clean and sober. You can get there my friend, even if a friend or family member has to kick your tail and carry you there, you will love them for it in the end.

So sad how can people do this to themselves

Why do meth addicts need to take a dump after the first hit. I've heard other types of drug addicts having the same issue (alcohol, coke, heroin). I'm looking for a medical explanation.

Drugs(including cigarettes) increase the metabolism in the body. That is why most drug addicts are not fat. So with an increase in metabolism, more waste leaves the body.

Yeah, I moved away for a while, but it didn't help me. It seems like it's everywhere.
What finally worked for me is instead of just saying I was cutting back or taking a break, quit cold turkey.
Tell everyone, like your drug friends and dealers that your quitting! I bet one of my friends a couple hundred bucks that I'd never touch it again! There's motivation!!
One thing that really helps me is that whenever anyone asks about it, say how much happier and stronger you feel, and how confident you are that you'll never do it again, even if it's a lie, you'll start to believe it. (Plus, you'll think twice about going back, because you'll look like an idiot!!)
Instead of thinking about whether or not to go pick up, just don't allow it to be an option anymore. Keep busy with other things. Don't give yourself the time or opportunity to go pick up. If you're fiending, think about being all sketchy and nasty and all the bad things, don't think about the high, think about how sick you feel after. I don't even let myself concentrate on the fiending, I'll go do something else to take my mind off it. Now, if I fiend it lasts like less than 10 seconds. Be a trooper! Hope that helps! peace

Don't believe for a second that because of your situation with drugs that you're not a christian...dont second guess your beliefs because you lost your way. Just use Christ to get back on the path you want to be on...motivate yourself to be the best person you can be.

Meth, typically, is an excuse drug. "I need more to get thru the day." "Just one more wont hurt".

Truth is, whoever is "trying" isnt trying hard enough. They need to be removed from the drug, and from everyone they associate who uses the drug. You cannot escape use of a chemical like that when you surround yourself with the users. You'll find yoursef making the decision to lie to yourself and do some more again and again. Best thing to do is to avoid it, remove it from your life, and remove everyone that uses it from your life. Plan on gaining some weight, because hardcore users will likely gain weight after stopping use.
