Meth Addiction & Recovery: Will my metabolism ever be normal again?
Master of Puppets

I gained about 35 lbs in 3 weeks after I quit. Its been 9 months and I've been dieting religiously. I know for certain that my metabolism is seriously screwed up. I am worried that it will never be the same. If anyone has personal experiences with this, please share.

I'm sure that you did alot of eating and sleeping during the 3 weeks time after you quit, a recipe for weight gain. You'll definitely get back to normal, I know that you can eat WAY more when you're doing meth and not gain weight. I look back on some of my eating habits when I used to use and marvel at the fact that I wasn't a total fat a$$. Throw in some exercise to manage your problem is what I'd do. I used for 4 years and no permanent affects in that category. I think that your body is just coming back to human metabolism and away from psycho speed metabolism. Plus, I know that you can eat alot in times during meth addiction but then there's those long periods of starvation that balance those out too.
Exercise is what I'd do and you'll definatley re-regulate as well. There's nothing that I'm aware of that could have the possibility of permanentley altering a vital bodily function like your metabolism just because of prior meth use. Neurotransmitter functions are a different story though. Good luck!

Is there such a thing as a full recovery from meth addiction, where it is as if the person never did the drug?

Or are people forever changed, however imperceptibly, for the worst, no matter how long they've been away from the drug?

some physical/mental/emotional damage may be permanent, but we learn ways to cope with the results/wreckage of our past and move on.
once you quit using, you have to remain clean , you can never ever turn around and use socially,...

most recovering/recovered addicts resume or acquire as normal a life as they desire for themselves.

virtually all the recovered addicts i have known take painstaking care to maintain their physical/spiritual/emotional health by whatever means neccesary.

we cannot turn back the clock, so we learn from our experiences and move on with life!

How do sober assistance become relevant to addiction recovery?
Day 119 - Starved ... laughter is the best medicine. I know from my recovery in all areas of addiction that humor is a tremendously, tremendously important antidote to recovery.

I have a close friend who has a sober assistance while recovering from meth addiction.

Sober assistance is a part of addiction recovery program where a recovering addict will go to a transition period. Sober assistance will prevent an addict to crave for drugs.

looking for statistics on risk of relapse after being clean for 2 years

i would like to see meth dealers executed right on the street where they live, in public. meth users caught should be forced into labour camps starting at 1year intervals. these camps should be orderly no talking, cursing, coffee ,cigs, just exercise , study, and very intense physical labour, physical beatings and verbal abuse when necessary
anyone can recover if they truely wanted, anyone!
