i was wondering if my friend could be prescribed medical marijuana...shes 16 and she suffers from migraines all the time...she has to stay home from school alot because of them...she used to take migraine pills but she became immune to them to the point where they would do nothing...then she had to start taking pain killers like vicodin/ percocet ect...which is horrible to take because when you use that for chronic migraines it will causes a tolerance and addiction...so i was wondering if there was any way she could be prescribed medical marijuana..i heard it works wonders for migraines

Until marijuana is re-scheduled, no doctor can actually "prescribe" it. There are 12 states that will tolerate her being in possession of small amounts for medical reasons, though. Check to see if you are in one of those more forgiving states.
There is some research that shows that LSD, not marijuana, is a surprisingly effective treatment for persistent migraine headaches. Read this:

in todays episode i talk about the bullshit that is quot;the gateway theoryquot; in regards to marijuana.
Why do people make such a huge fuss over medical marijuana but not medical heroin? I've even heard politicians (who should be educated a little bit on all issues like this) say that there are "better" alternatives than marijuana but they have worse side effects, the risk of physical addiction, and a risk of overdose. It can't just be that the people are ignorant .
I don't know of any legitimate uses for "medical heroin." However, heroin is an opiate and there are certainly plenty of those to go around in the medical field, along with their addictions. Methadone is an opiate used to get people off heroin, but it creates an even worse problem in that it is more addicting and much harder to kick than the heroin itself.
Medical marijuana is now legal in 14 states. Still against federal law, because federal government refuses to acknowledge that it has any medical purpose, despite a 5000 year history of safety and usefulness in many cultures around the world, including the US prior to it's being made illegal.
People make a "huge fuss over" MMJ because the same government that made it illegal has done their best for the past 70 years to make people believe the propaganda they put out about the drug. Those that believe it are convinced of it's harm, while those who have tried it know better. Meanwhile, government agencies continue to haunt us with tales of mental midgets and couch potatoes, while at the same time preventing any meaningful research into potential benefits of the drug. In many cases, marijuana IS the better alternative to opiates. Opiates can be prescribed by a doctor, and pharmaceutical companies continue to profit from them. Big pharma sees no profit in marijuana since it's a weed and anyone can grow it. Their job has become to support continued prohibition, meanwhile working on isolating various compounds from the plant. There have already been a number of patents applied for and/or issued for various cannabinoids. Marinol, a licensed FDA drug, is synthetic THC. It amazes me how they can call a synthetic version of a natural plant component a legal and effective remedy, but the plant itself remains illegal.
It's a crazy world we live in, but more and more it seems marijuana is becoming more mainstream and I can only hope government comes to it's senses and repeals this prohibition. It didn't work for alcohol, and guess what? It still doesn't work.
I'm doing a school debate about medical marijuana...
Im drawing a blank at any more arguments to make.
I've covered the obvious ones (addiction, too available to youth, etc)
Your thoughts?
(PLEASE, no pro marijuana stuff!)
Thanks so much so far, all three of you :)
How about benzopyrene and other toxic substances?
Say, for example, that a leukemia patient was given some medical marijuana to help deal with his chemotherapy treatments. The leukiemia was successfully treated...and the person got lung or throat cancer because of smoking pot....
To me, highlighting the toxins in marijauna while examining the other pain medications that are available is a much stronger argument than the two that you have outlined above. There is no pysiologically addictive chemicals in pot, nor is it available to the youth.
Here's a link that outlines some dangers of using pot:

Please keep in mind that I think that the benefits outweigh the disadvatages for cancer patients. However, I can't stand to see someone make a weak argument...I was on the debate team...
Another thing that you might want to explore is sythesized THC. My friend was taking this when he had cancer. It's in a pill form, with much fewer toxins. A great strategy would be to AGREE to ALL of the benefits of medical marijauna, but dispute that it is a safe drug. Then, introduce the idea of synthetic THC pills as a safe alternative. The opposing team can't very well say that THC produces an unwanted effect, or they would ruin thier own case. This gives you an airtight win...
it has worked for me...ive been clean off meth now for three years after a 19 year addiction.what are your thoughts on this subject, thanks!
When you get off a drug you always get on another. it even could be eating , exercising...etc....
I think marijuana should be legalized because it is better than drinking or meth or coke or pain med. etc!!!!
give it to hospitals to use for medical treatment, but be illegal outside hospital doors, and anythoer areas that use Marijuana for medical purposes and just doesn't use it go get High and have "Fun" at parties?
The only people who protest to get Weed legalized are the same people who just want to smoke themselves to death, Little weed is good, Overdose and Addiction and repetitive smoking, is bad.
Iraqi, I do not really say it will kill you, it may lower a lifespan a couple years, burn up your lungs, just like smoking. and Oh yeah, smell bad too.
No, because then it would be legal for the mentally ill to use.
