My husband and I were debating about what causes internet addiction. He doesn't believe that it's organizations that handles treatment for the problem. so I'm counting on you all to show him that it's causes symptons, treatment for internet addiction. also, does any one know of any organizations?

symptoms....typing in sleep
treatments.......reconnect to dial up, the frustration will do the rest.

I have a new client who wants treatment for internet pornography. He feels it is a compulsion and wants to end it. I am filling out my treatment plan, but there is no DSM IV diagnosis for sexual addiction. What diagnosis should I use?

There was some debate about putting it in to the DSM, and it is not clear if it will be put into the next one. I think you want to assess whether the patient meets the criteria for OCD, depression, something anti-social, something in the anxiety world, etc. There isn't a single diagnosis you would use for this, so you have to look at other symptoms and how it impacts the clients functioning.

I don't want to just get stuff from the Internet. Some sources aren't really reliable and I have found information that are contradictions of each other.

I think it would be good to talk to someone who is dealing with addiction treatment on a regular basis. You might want to talk to various counselors and therapists at addiction treatment centers. To find addiction treatment centers, just use the links below. You can also look through the local yellow pages and call them up to ask whether you can interview someone. You can also probably get information from your local health services department.

She really wants to talk to someone about this. She vetoes the idea of just searching on the Internet.

Is she the one suffering from addiction? Or would she just like to get information? Anyway, the links below should be able to help you out in finding addiction treatment centers.
