I need to get started on a Causal Analysis Essay, the first one ive ever done and need some help to get the ball rolling.
I am doing it on Internet Addiction, rather Obsession and I am told that I need to generate a list of causes. Also a list of Solutions. This is where i'm stuck. What indeed are the causes of internet addiction?
Funny, im asking internet users here on Yahoo. :-)
Here's a link to my professors page that has some help yet i'm racking my brain on the causes and possible solutions.

Immediate Causes, Hidden Causes, Obvious Causes, Perpetuating Causes, Remote or Background Cases ...I need. Thanks!
i think the biggest cause is neccesity. In order to stay on top of things in this modern world, research and work on the internet is crucial to be ahead of the game. I think the internet has also replaced typical ways of communication, such as the telephone, so instead of chatting on the phone for an hour, you will chat on the internet 4 an hour instead. For younger kids it has become a playground of sorts. Instead of playing a board game with friends, why not play an online game? its a change in culture. For researchinga project, instead of spending a few hours at the libarary, ul spend a few hours on the internet instead. As far as solutions, i don't think there is a solution, until the internet become replaced by superior technology, which is not likely to happen 4 a long time. I guess parents limiting the amount of time their kids have online might be a solution, but as more and more things become linked to the internet, spending less time online will be harder and harder.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

please help! im 24 and I live at home with my parents, no college degree, no girlfriend, no friends, nothing but depression and computer addiction atleast 15 hours a day until 5 in the morning. I can't escape it whether its porn or constant researching for new information. I constantly try to make the best bookmarks with the best sites for certain type of info. I use it for everything bus routes, driving directions, movie times, music, movies, talking to people online - how do I get into the real world?!?! I dont know how to get hte information I get from the internet in the real world, I dont know how to tune into society and figure out what time a movie is playing or where a certain hiking trail is without first getting online and researching it to death! Talking to people is not even worth it at this point, I can hold a girls attention maybe 8 seconds maximum. blowing my brains out sounds like a great idea. I cant stop surfing the net, I just can't turn ideas into a real event. help
I treated that by being a member in a BigBrother association,it actually helped regain social skills and spend better time.
About how to know when and where, just substitute surfing with going to there and ask when and where, even meeting the organisers or calling them other than e-mailing them.
I am doing an argumentative paper on the effects of Internet Addiction Disorder and am arguing that the Internet should be regulated to a certain amount of time. Preferably the attention span of a normal person when doing work or business

Try asking in mental health
i wrote it.
you are exactly my brand of heroin.
you know when you need something or
someone so bad, so bad like a drug and you feel
you need to do it everyday, you need to talk
to them everyday, or you can't stop thinking about
it, and you feel weak and stressed, an addiction.
your brain tells you that you need to talk to this person
so bad or you'll faint. you need to eat some more
chocolate or you feel you wont be able to stop
thinking about it til you do.
this "drug" is what makes you feel like this,
in the first place, because it was always there,
always there when you needed some more to
make you feel better, but when it disappears..
when there's.. no more left. you feel yourself
craving again in time.
eventually.. does this craving effect wear off?
if you are starved of your addiction enough,
smoking, food, internet, does the feeling fade?
what if it is a person. and you know they're out there,
you know you CAN talk to them if they wanted to talk
to you back, and what if you did?... would it satisfy your
craving?... would it make that horrible need feeling go away?
if it came back forever?
what if you faught though, ....
what if you fought and succeeded. you didn't give up.
and eventually you accepted that you cannot have this
drug. and that you do not need it.
could that happen?
It is possible, it depends on your discipline and determination to turn your back on the drug that you can't resists of having. All you can do is to seek professional help and ask for advice and how you can prolonge or remove the hunger for that drug.
