And what's the most money you've ever lost? Just want to hear some good stories of people hitting it big and people going bust in the world of gambling. Or you can tell me the story of someone you know or someone you saw. For example, I saw a guy in a casino in Reno hit the jackpot on a slot machine. I asked him how long he'd been at the machine and he said "three days!" I also know an engineer who lost his family and job and had to work as a fish processor in Alaska all because of his gambling addiction.
I won $1,000 playing a quarter poker machine while I was waiting for my friends to pick me up after work. I ended up taking them out to eat at a very nice restaurant.
I never think about the losses. That's just fun tax.
If anybody have any story to share regarding your addiction to drugs, gambling, pills, sex or food and how you started it, and then felt you need the help to overcome it, and then how you are dealing with it now, I would appreciate if you would share that with me. Thank you..
Well, I have never been a social addicted, but my dad used to be. He was an alcoholic, and he deal with that addiction for 20 years, he went to alcoholics anonymous and he hasn't drink alcohol for 4 or 5 years. The bad thing about his addiction is that he lost his own family, because he got divorced of my mom, and the only way I communicate with him is by email. So, now I gave you my dad's story.
I am hearing more stories in the media of some teens sending an outrageous number of text messages each day. There is also the incidence of Teens texting while driving which they know is distracting and dangerous, but when tested and interviewed on this, they can't seem to resist it entirely while driving, leading to a movement by some to try to make a law against it.
The texting addiction is sounding similar to other kinds of addictions (e.g. to alcohol, drugs, gambling, compulsive shopping).
But I am looking for one or more teens who have this addiction or know other teens who have it, to please explain it to me. What is the compulsion to send so many text messages? Do teens know that many people? Or is it usually to just a few who may also have the texting addiction? What do you text about that is so compelling that you can't stop it on your own? Would you go into withdrawal if all your texting devices were taken away? How might it be different from people who are compulsive about emailing or checking their email inbox throughout the day to the detriment of other necessary activities? Is there some addictive connection to the handheld texting device, similar to how some are addicted to their Game Boy?
ok, though i am not physically or mentally addicted, i do text a lot. and i am a teen.
texting with teens is like parents with the word no. its always there. teens, like myself a nd a lot of my friends, prefer to send a text because it's a lot quieter, and although i dont do this at all, they can send them in school without anyone hearing them. also, texting is more fun than calling. you get to use awesome abbreviations, and its quick and easy. however, ive been through where i couldnt text for a few days because my wrists were sore. anyway, for people like me and my friends and classmates, texting is the new email and AIM, with a more likely chance that it will get to the person. instant gratification, you know. in school, they have threatened to permanently confiscate our phones forever if they catch us with them. and kids still do it. many kids have had their phones taken away 5 or 6 times so far this week, and still they arent inforcing the rule they put into effect. texting is the easiest way to talk these days. if i dont text for a few days, im ok. but my one classmate does actually go into withdrawl and starts acting really really strange. once she gets her phone back shes fine. overall, although some people dont get it, i guess that texting is just what teens do for fun now. it also could do with the fact of, again, parents cant hear the conversation if its inappropriate. texting is just a fun and easy way to talk, and with all the new cool phones out, why not?
hope i answered your question. (:

My husband is a compulsive gambler, as far as I know he is not gambling at the moment and he did used to attend meetings at Gamblers Anonymous for 3 years but now does not go as he does not want the constant reminder and feels like he is being treated like a child at the meetings.
3 months ago he decided he was no longer sure if he wanted to continue being married to me or if he wanted to 'set me free' and not have to be answerable to me.
We are currently in the process og legally having the finances sorted out to enable us to go our seperate ways. He says he may well live to regret his decision to finish our marriage, although he does not want a divorce yet but at the moment cannot put the effort into our marriage to make it work.
He won't talk about our problems and although I dearly love him after being together 11 years I feel I have no choice but to move on for my own sanity. We do not have children.
Has an addiction ruined your marriage? Please share your story...
My addiction to pain pills damaged our relationship. I've been in recovery for 5 years now and things are better, but not all perfect.
I'm sorry for your painful situation. I just know that God is helping us hold it together and that God cares very much about your situation.
I think his attitude is selfish and I hope he comes to his senses and tries to rebuild with you. It takes two to break most marriages and two to remake them plus God.
I will pray you find your way through this painful time.
I believe my mother has a problem
My mother has no idea on what she is talking about half the time she is speaking. All she is doing is being a hypocritical, procrastinating person. What I thought the cause of this … is that she is taking out her emotional pains on me by shouting and criticizing me … she has the nerve to actually say “your room isn’t clean enough” or “back in the day we didn’t have shoes like those”. She makes me do all the work.. And no im not meaning as if im one of those lazy kids who complains about chores. She literally makes me do all the work… then she starts to tell me not to spend my money on clothes which I don’t always do … it’s usually just a shirt or so every 2 weeks… she is such a hypocrite she is in a denial phase of her gambling addiction which she doesn’t have from what she tells me .. but I can smell the tobacco smoke in her jackets and those rsl receipts and the shortage of money … She herself is telling me im not spending my money wisely , Mother im not the one putting a hundred dollars a day in a machine to see some pretty colours , and when she wins she thinks of it as a very high achievement and then boast’s the story about it. Im usually left home with my cousins or at my aunties. They usually tell her about me and how they’ve been observing me and how I need more attention then she usually gives that half hearted angry look and says that she doesn’t have time for something like im not sure SPENDING TIME WITH HER OWN AND ONLY SON!.... and when she does have time to spend with me she barely does anything she either doesn’t talk to me or has some ridiculous rant on how I can improve on my studies…. I study every single day … and she thinks all im doing on the computer is Bloody-playing games. To me I think this is a typical story about neglect and how gambling effects family. And here’s the worst part… when im trying to show her affection by hugging or trying to kiss her she either tells me she’s not in the mood or doesn’t even appreciate me a 13 year old trying to show her some form of love.
Please help me..
If you are 13 and you have money then she must be paying you to clean. I do feel for you and it does sound like your mom is going through an extremely selfish stage in her life but that doesn't mean she doesn't love you. You need to talk to your aunt or family member she is putting you with about how you feel. They know her and your situation best and can give you the best advice how to handle your relationship with your mother. Best of luck to you and sounds like you are a great kid. Your mother is very lucky.

Recent studies show that a growing number of young people are compulsive gamblers, particularly obsessed with gambling on the Internet. And now, Canadian researchers say that you may be able to discover who will become an addict one day by studying the behavior of kindergartners. How can you prevent your teen from getting hooked?
Daniel was a compulsive gambler.
Over the course of two years he racked up 18 thousand dollars of credit card debt.
“So on a typical night, my gambling at its worst, say here Oct. 25th,” Daniel says looking at his bank statement, “I deposited $50, I deposited another 50, another 50, a 100, another 100, 50, and then 200. So all-in-all that’s 6- $600.”
But was he an impulsive child years ago?
Researchers at the University of Montreal say there is a direct correlation: the more impulsive kids are, the more likely they will become gambling addicts.
