Poker, Gambling, Sports Betting Addiction Help

www.gamblinghelper.com quot; The only way to make money in a casino is to own one.quot; - -Steve Wynn, owner of The Mirage, Bellagio, Wynn Resort ...

Why do footballers and other sports stars love gambling so much?

What is the point?? Do they not realise that the only winners in gambling are the casino's/beting agents! Furthermore, it is not as if they need any more money!! Take for example the late George Best - he was worth millions and died with hardly a penny to his name because of his gambling addiction (and drink problem). These people are so silly!!

People like this have money to burn. They are just getting all kinds of money thrown at them all the time, not just their pay but lucrative sponsorship deals, personal appearance fees etc. The good ones have so much money coming their way it means nothing to drop a few hundred thousand in an evening of gambling.

When someone rich like this shows up at a casino they are treated like VIPs. They get free food, free suites, free shows, free alcohol. They will wine and dine people like this, hoping for a chance to take their money. So it isn't just about the gambling it is this fabulous red carpet treatment and all the other fun that goes on. When some casino sends a limo to your door, takes you in a private plane to the casino, checks you into a suite for free, it's a great feeling.

The celebrity in question couldn't care less if he wins or loses because he is having fun. If he loses a hundred grand, there is plenty more where that came from.

Unfortunately as you pointed out, celebrities are just as susceptible to problems as anyone else. Some people will just get hooked on the thrill of the win. Sure, they don't need the money, but everyone likes that feeling when they win something. So some people will get hooked on drinking, gambling, drugs, sex, and many other vices. Often these sports personalities are not the smartest people in the world either. They don't necessarily plan for the future. They money keeps rolling in, they keep spending it. On day the money dries up and they have nothing set aside for a rainy day.

It's easy to sit there and be cynical about these people, but some of them are so very young when they get signed, and the people around them encourage them to party and squander money. They make costly financial mistakes they may one day regret. I think calling them silly is a little unfair. Frankly, it is hard to imagine this kind of life style unless you've lived it.

Is there anyone willing to help with my gambling addiction?

Is there anyone willing to help?
I have a MAJOR gambling addition. I got kicked out of the us navy for it, I lost over 75k of inheritiance money and now am probably roughly in debt about 53k. Ive lost friends, jobs etc because of it. and yet im only 21. I really dont want to talk on the phone with someone or in person about my issue.

I was hoping that there is someone out there with a big heart and some knowledge in helping me with my addiction that is willing to talk to me for a bit.

Your just trollin' for another excuse to fail............
get some backbone...........

What are your thoughts on the online gambling prohibition act tacked onto the end of an antiterrorism bill?

The act was passed Saturday, Sep 30. It prohibits online gambling by placing criminal sanctions on financial institutions and banks if they fund an entity involved in "illegal gambling" operations. Some things such as horseracing and fantasy sports have been carved out/excluded from the definition of illegal gambling, but common games such as poker and blackjack are hit.

I will admit my bias and say that this legislation is crap. The government should not be telling us what we can and cannot do with our own money. They say it's to protect the children and to stop gambling addictions... there are many other less restrictive yet more effective means to protect children from gambling websites such as universal age-verification accounts (which could be implemented if the government looked into regulation instead of prohibition). As for addicts.... I've never heard an addict complain that he couldn't find a place to gamble his money away. Taking this away doesn't help the addiction

I agree with you that this is an unnecessary and unhelpful bill. If legally prohibiting addictive behaviors was effective, then alcohol would be the least abused drug in America. Instead, it's the most abused.

But the most disturbing aspect of this act, in my opinion, is that I was not aware of it until you posted your question. I did not hear this or read this on any news outlet where I get my news on a daily basis. All I've heard about is senators' emails, election stuff, and school shootings. It makes me wonder what other crucially important bills have been passed without me being informed of them at all.

I know it's my responsibility as a citizen to know the laws, but it seems so difficult to get that information. If ignorance of the law is no excuse, then where do we go to get "un-ignorant?" Is there some kind of database or master list of the laws I'm expected to know and follow, not to mention which of my Congresspersons voted for/against it, so I can use that knowledge next time I vote?

Quietly tacking onto a bill an unrelated law is an extremely deceptive and shameful practice in a supposedly free democratic society. I feel conned.

  • University Of Buffalo Professor Tackles Problem bGambling/b Again

Senior Research Scientist John W. Welte, Ph.D., of the University of Buffalo Research Institute on Addictions, conducted an investigation on problem gambling back in 1999-2000. It was a highly revered investigation that gave answers to where problem gambling was taking place, in addition to how frequently it was taking place and with what consequences. "This research will examine trends in gambling behavior and gambling problems among US adults since 1999," said Welte, "Most importantly, we also will examine the relationship between gambling trends and changes in the social approval of gambling, changes in neighborhoods and changes in state gambling laws. Because localities control the location and density of such gambling opportunities as casinos or lottery outlets, voters and policy makers have some influence over the rates of problem gambling in our society."

bSports/b Betting Can Lead to a bGambling Addiction/b by Dr. Robert b.../b

DR. WALLACE: My friends and I bet with each other on sporting events, such as the World Series, Super Bowl, the NCAA basketball tournament, key boxing matches and other sporting games. We don't bet a lot of money on each event. If I had horrible luck and lost every bet, I would be out less than $500. But it would be almost impossible to lose all my bets.

My parents allow me to gamble, mainly because my dad is in our betting group. It's my mom who is upset at both of us. She thinks he's teaching me bad habits. Trust me when I tell you that I will never become addicted to gambling. All of these bets are nothing but innocent fun and recreation. Do you think what I'm doing (let my dad speak for himself) is wrong? — Nameless, Goshen, Ind.

NAMELESS: Mom is right to be concerned. Gambling addiction is a serious matter, capable of wrecking lives and throwing people into bankruptcy. And as public acceptance of this vice grows, the problem becomes worse.

In the past few decades, gambling has become increasingly mainstream by pervading our lives at every level — from bingo fundraisers at churches and schools to state lotteries. There are now 43 states with this form of "alternative taxation."
