I'm really lucky I haven't lost money overall - I'm ahead a fair junk of change! I started hitting the roulette wheel just over a week ago and hit a lucky streak. But I'm betting big amounts and I keep going back to it even though I know I should just quit while I'm ahead. I Just need a site where I can talk about this thing for free and stop before lose my shirt!

Is an online gambling addiction enough to end a marriage?

When a spouse spends nights on end online gambling and binge drinking, his attitude becoming cruel and condescending when asked to stop, is it enough to leave a marriage? Mine doesn't even get the thrill of intimacy from our relationship anymore because the gambling is more exciting to him.

Any addiction can cause the breakup of a relationship because the addict doesn't care about anything or anyone except their next fix. The other person is left out in the cold and often has to deal with the consequences of their partners addiction. In the case of gambling that means a financial strain as well as the psychological pain of watching your loved one destroy themselves. For you, you should seriously consider getting out of the relationship if your partner refuses to give this up or at least seek professional help. As things stand it's a relationship in name only!!!

My fiance's father has an online gambling addiction......?

He will spend 48 strait hours on the computer playing poker only getting up to use the restroom or grab a snack or something. They live 7 hours away, so we don't see them very often, and last time we went to visit them, his dad blew us off all weekend long to play poker. His dad recently got sick and had to have surgery, then had some major complications from the surgery that very nearly killed him, making the last memory my fiance would have had of his dad one of being blown off. I would think that nearly dieing would get his attention, but I think hes worse. He has no desire to quit, doesn't think its a problem. All this really bugs my fiance, but he doesn't know what to do about it, he says it makes his dad happy, but I think that sometimes people cut themselves to be happy, that doesnt make it a good thing! His Dad has actually made a lot of money off it, he literally won over $20,000 in one night, so he has no financial reason to quit. Anyone have any advice?

He needs to see professional help, but this will only work if he is ready to want help. Compulsive gambling addiction is the most devastating addiction one can have, and the effects on the family are horrible. The road to recovery can be quite a long journey as well. What are your thoughts on the online gambling prohibition act tacked onto the end of an antiterrorism bill?

The act was passed Saturday, Sep 30. It prohibits online gambling by placing criminal sanctions on financial institutions and banks if they fund an entity involved in "illegal gambling" operations. Some things such as horseracing and fantasy sports have been carved out/excluded from the definition of illegal gambling, but common games such as poker and blackjack are hit.

I will admit my bias and say that this legislation is crap. The government should not be telling us what we can and cannot do with our own money. They say it's to protect the children and to stop gambling addictions... there are many other less restrictive yet more effective means to protect children from gambling websites such as universal age-verification accounts (which could be implemented if the government looked into regulation instead of prohibition). As for addicts.... I've never heard an addict complain that he couldn't find a place to gamble his money away. Taking this away doesn't help the addiction

I agree with you that this is an unnecessary and unhelpful bill. If legally prohibiting addictive behaviors was effective, then alcohol would be the least abused drug in America. Instead, it's the most abused.

But the most disturbing aspect of this act, in my opinion, is that I was not aware of it until you posted your question. I did not hear this or read this on any news outlet where I get my news on a daily basis. All I've heard about is senators' emails, election stuff, and school shootings. It makes me wonder what other crucially important bills have been passed without me being informed of them at all.

I know it's my responsibility as a citizen to know the laws, but it seems so difficult to get that information. If ignorance of the law is no excuse, then where do we go to get "un-ignorant?" Is there some kind of database or master list of the laws I'm expected to know and follow, not to mention which of my Congresspersons voted for/against it, so I can use that knowledge next time I vote?

Quietly tacking onto a bill an unrelated law is an extremely deceptive and shameful practice in a supposedly free democratic society. I feel conned.

Do you think online gambling sites such as poker, strip poker, etc help worsen the cases of gambling addiction

do you think liquor stores make it worse for alcoholics?

  • Buy Cheap

  • Do You Have an bOnline Gambling Addiction/b?

Sadly, the answer to this question is almost always ‘no’ because gamblers rarely admit to being able to stop gambling. So many gamblers are deeply addicted to online gambling and completely powerless to stop yet insist they are not addicted, claiming to have a healthy hobby which they enjoy and which they are able to control.

This is not the case and many online gamblers are deep in debt and unable to concentrate on work, family commitments or anything of importance outside the online casinos they frequent on a daily basis.

Online gambling addictions are characterized by certain traits: A gambling addict will be unable to stay away from the online casino. Losing is not as important as playing. A gambling addict will often lose money that was reserved for other things.

Taking the first step toward recovering from an online gambling addiction is obviously to admit there is a problem in the first place and this is quite difficult for any addict.

The second step is to install an effective web filter to block online gambling sites from your home computer. You might argue that an addict will get access to a gambling casino from another computer and that is certainly true, but at least you will be able to limit the amount of time an addict spends on online gambling sites and thus limit the amount of money lost.

Does Video Game Play Lead to bGambling Addiction/b? | GamePolitics

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Adelaide has linked regular video game play to gambling addiction.

Australia's ABC News reports on comments by Paul Delfabbro of the University's school of psychology. Delfabbro's team studied more than 2,500 Australian teens and found that more than half admitted to gambling within the preceding 12 months. Delfabbro commented on his findings:

If you look at those young people who are classified as pathological gamblers you will find that they do have a higher frequency of involvement with many different types of videogame. They're much more likely to play games on Xboxes and similar consoles. They are also more likely to play arcade games...

Some young people who don't have a lot of structured activities in their life... what they'll often do is spend very large amounts of time playing videogames or often be more likely to be the ones who go off to street venues to play arcade games.

Being in a gang is a structured activity, right?  Let's get all these teens out of those totally random arcades and casinos and into the friendly social environs of a mafia family!
