I have noticed that a lot of people are getting addicted to gambling. I have an acquaintance who has admitted that she loves to gamble because of the adrenaline rush it gives her. I was just wondering if gambling addiction is a serious enough issue and if it is, if there are treatment programs out there for people who have gotten addicted to gambling.
Just like alcoholism or drug addiction, gambling addiction is considered as an illness. Fortunately, there are treatment programs available for chronic gamblers. Though there is no cure and the occurrence of relapse is always possible, it can be treated. You can probably suggest to your friend that she contact her local health services department and ask about treatment centers. Gambling addiction is something that must not be taken lightly.

Here's an idea that might work! Send the Gambler to rehab and let the Big 3 reorganize. If they don't make it through, then neither of them deserve the money.
They already have, the bank bailout was bailing out gamblers. They just gambled with other peoples money.

I for the life of me,don't understand why people who are gambling addicts can't get it or understand that gambling is a self destructive behavior. I mean people are always looking at a way to get rich quick and why are so many people,"willing,"to just throw their hard earned money away when they gamble?
I have never understood why people find gambling so wonderful, what is so wonderful about it? I mean people go into casinos thinking they are going to,"win big,"when in reality they just sink deeper into debt and self destruction not only with themselves, but with their family too!
Forget trying to talk to a gambling addict, because they don't think they have a problem, and you would be better off talking to a wall than to a gambling addict.
Why are so many people so blind and so stupid, thinking that gambling is the answer to all of their problems? I look forward to your responses and the best answer gets 10 points! Serious answers only please!
I don't get it either Winnie. I suspect that we both know people whose lives and families have been destroyed by this wholly destructive addiction.
I continue to be amazed as well by government's compliance - opening up casinos, perpetual new lotteries ... I know of a good man who is about to lose his entire life - his wife, his home, his reputation - because a casino opened near him & he became a gambling addict. Gambling is more socially acceptable than, say drugs or alcohol. It's probably harder to get help for it. All the same, it's a killer. I hate it.
Don't get me wrong, I have my own set of messed up addictions, but this one never took root. What do some people experience psychologically that hooks them?
We are gambling in subconscious ways on a frequent basis. When we gamble with money we can see what it is we are winning or losing. It can seem like a sense of security to have something so clear. At least we might measure the gains and loses with some degree of certainty. Will someone let me lose(or win), who knows unless we are speaking about something so clear as money? Essentially, it is the tangibility of the reinforcer that attracts people with a gambling tendency.
