I have heard that the death rate for gambling addiction is 25%, caused primarily by suicide. I have also heard that this death rate is higher than any substance abuse addiction. Can anyone show me proof or hard statistics on this?

Simply contact your local gamblers anonymous they should have that kind of data for you.

Why does every commercial about spousal abuse, alcohol and gambling addiction, suicide and depression and every other negative problem have a Marine play the part of the person with the problem. but if its something about someone getting a degree or working their up the military food chain its some airman or soldier. Thus, my question, why are Marines the victims of the sterotypes of the military?

Because its easy to stereotype the marine in those situations rather than the rational or cerebral role. They spend alot of time and money created the idea that they are the most hardcore badas*es but along with that comes some negative stereotypes. They are not the only victims of stereotypes. Take Brandon and his Air Force comment. Assuming that the Air Force doesn't deserve respect is like assuming that marines can't control themselves and abuse their spouses and children. What can you do? By the way, Brandon...when you find yourself in a tough spot and you make the call, the AF will show up for you. We don't circle above your heads for countless hours on end because its fun.

okay well i signed up for this program where i have to pick a science related topic and research it for 3 years. my uncle recently committed suicide from a gambling addiction and i was wondering if addictions were science related and if i could maybe use that as my topic. help please?

others like gambling would come into science but only if your school/college includes psychology under the general heading of science

I ask this question because I lost two brothers to dreaded addictions; one was a gambling addict, and another was an alcoholic. I can tell you, you are never the same!

No, I haven't had that exprerience, but I have experienced the death of our family due to my father's gambling addiction. He took all of their stock out of Sears just before it went sky high and gambled it away. He was taking money out of the bank without letting my mom know and we almost lost our house.

He would not come home for days or weeks on end. He basically lived in the pool hall. He'd only come home to take a shower, put more clean clothes in his trunk, take my babysitting money or anything of mine that he could sell, then off he'd go to the pool hall. My mom eventually had to divorce him and get his name off everything before we ended up living on the streets.
