Does anyone know of a gamblers addiction chat room?
THE ADDICTED, IN THE GLOW OF THE ADDICTION

My best friend is hiding a gambling problem, and I need to get some advice and help for her. I told her I am worried for her and that she should go to GA but she just laughed it off and told me she was fine.

There is a new group set up for gamblers called gamcare i'm not sure if they have a chatroom, but I wouldn't recommend seeking help for your friend as she will need to realise herself that she has a problem.

What does it mean to dream about your addiction?
addiction

What does it mean to dream about engaging in your addiction of choice? Like if you're a compulsive gambler, what does it mean to dream about gambling (can't be as easy as, "I want to gamble," can it?)?

Is there a difference in dreaming that you DO gamble, and dreaming that you resist gambling?

You want to probe how they felt about it. Were they disgusted at themselves when they awoke? Did they want to gamble when they awoke?

Dreaming they resist may mean their progressing in identifying their place is to resist; dreaming they indulge may be greiving over the loss, like dreaming of a passed loved one. Even in abusive relationships people miss the pronounced relief they occasionally would get from the madness. When life becomes more orderly, there's no opportunity for that relief because that chaos isn't there from which to be relieved.

Why does gamblers anonymous have to mention god?

Ive come to admit that i have a gambling problem and i went to gamblers anonymous but i was put off by the fact that several of the steps include religious connotations. Im a staunch atheist and i feel there must be a way of fighting this addiction without going all religious.

I agree with you, it is ridiculous. It is a shame if there are no other organizations that can help you without using the crutch of religion. I think for alcoholism they have alternate organizations, but I don't know about gambling.

I thought that they mention a "higher power" and not any specific religious reference. Is it possible that you can just lie though the steps (or parts of the steps) that you don't agree with, and be helped from the other steps? Maybe you can interperet the higher power to be science. I'm sure that a lot of what is done has nothing to do with religion, and hopefully they don't make you participate in any type of prayer. If they say a group prayer, maybe you can just stand up along with everyone else but just not say anything. I'm Jewish, and if I go to a wedding in a church I stand up along with everyone else, (I want to be respectful, but I won't kneel), but I don't participate in any of the prayers or even say amen.

Gambling Addiction - What Is Problem Gambling & How Do You Stop It?

I hear about gamblers living in a state of denial that they have no problem whatsoever with their addiction. There's got to be a way to 'snap out of it'.

Problem gambling, like any other addiction, is a kind of compulsion. The guy just can't let go. He's on a roll, he's winning, losing, keeping it going -- it becomes disruptive and almost pathological.

You're right about the 'state of denial' that gamblers live in, and sadly, they snap out of it only they've lost their money, house, car and spouse.

Fact is, these guys need support too. They too are human, with their own weaknesses. And the best way to deal with gambling addiction (be it a friend or family member) is to put some sense into him. Show him the mirror; tell him what he's doing to himself and to you.

Explain it assertively and courageously. Get Gambler's Anonymous if you have to. One way or another, just tell him to stop.

How does gambling addiction affect friends and co-workers of the gambler?

He'll want to borrow money and won't show up on time 'cause he was up all weekend in Atlantic City.
