I attended a Food Addicts Anonymous meeting a couple of days ago. To join/participate one must attend several meetings. Although, I like the results heard during the meeting, I am uncomfortable declaring myself an 'addict'. In the meeting, one must introduce themselves followed by the phrase, " I am a food addict." How do I know if I am an addict? The act of labeling myself something negative, repeatedly, seems spiritually counter-productive. I am approaching gastric by-pass surgery later in the year, meeting with the surgeon next month. My hope is that this will be a successful alternative for me.
What is an addict? Well, would you go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting just to see what it's like? Of course not. You would only go to AA because you know you have a problem with alcohol---even if the first time you go you don't want to admit how bad your problem is. An addict is someone who cannot stop whatever destructive behavior they continue to do---no matter what the consequences are of them continuing to do it.
Someone who is a food addict is someone who has a lot of problems in their life because of food. They are overweight---or even obese. Or their bodyweight can go up and down constantly. They hate being like that, they promise....SWEAR they are going to stop.....and they can't. They start to eat...they keep eating, it makes them feel horribly guilty, it hurts their body....yet they just keep right on doing it. That's a food addict.
If you can stop overeating or binge eating, give up the things you love that are so bad for you, start eating healthy, lose weight, not think about food constantly...then I guess you aren't addicted to food.
If you went to a meeting for food addicts, then you have a problem with food.....even if right now you don't want to admit how bad your problem is.

Okay, I'm a food addict and compulsive over eater and their is a meal plan for food addicts and i should've layed it out for you but, in essence it looks to be about 15-1600 calories a day. Now I'm only 4;11 but, for the program they want you to stick to this no matter what to discourage the compulision to over eat. Now I'm only 30 or 40 pounds overweight so how far will this calorie intake take me as i get smaller. If i take in this many calories how much should I exercise or is this too many calories for me

I went to Overeaters Anonymous--is that the same thing? It's the eating branch of AA.
I didn't like it. I'm not religious and all the god and prayer stuff turned me off.
Hi,
I just attended my first meeting. I heard people talk about no flour and no sugar and weighing and measuring the 3 meals a day, no snacks. Beyond that I am clueless.
Is there someone out there who can give me more information on the eating lifestyle change involved in this program, please? Thank you.
I attended for several months and did lose weight but also found it a bit intense for me. Very good for someone who is very self-disciplined but the group I went to seemed almost scary in their approach to eating. It seemed like we were trading one compulsive/addiction (overeating) for another compulsive/addiction (controlling food became more important than any and all other areas of our life). Everything else became secondary in our lives and I thought that a bit extreme for me. Each group is most likely different so worth at least a try.
Does anyone know the meal plan???
is there such a thing if so send it to me thanks
