I am slightly addicted to computer games. I'm about to go to a very challenging High School and I don't want to have a computer addiction which will get in the way of homework, sports, friends, and everything else! Help!
First things first... get rid of your games... I know this sounds tragic and you're probably thinking "what? This guy has no idea how much these games mean to me" and my answer is YES I DO, my roommate in college is the same way - hrs upon hrs of games, nothing else.
I would first get rid of them so that you can't even physically play them. Maybe keep one ore two for times when you have no other obligations.
2nd, start working out and doing lots of exercise... this will automatically make u feel less interested in sitting around playing games.
Hang out with people that are active outside the house, people who like to go out and do stuff...etc
Also, you can make a reward system for yourself. Make sure you get a certain amount of productive stuff done before you play a game. Maybe on one night you don't play at all. On the next night you can play one round or one game after you finish your homework. Start small and work your way up to never playing them anymore...
I'm telling you though, you are smart for wanting to get out of the game scene... I am a first year college student and my friends who play video games constantly underperform significantly. As a matter of fact, my best friend in high school was a game addict and he didn't end up getting into any of the colleges he applied to...
you're already making some good decisions.
From exposure to deprivation, we document the life of a video game addict and his fall from normalcy to the bowels of complete dependency.
some of the teenagers now are addicted to computer games, can this addiction change the behavior of an individual..............??????????
You mean like a person's aggression?
Although video games how violent they may be can influence violence to those who get stimulated, it can give out a different effect to others.
See people have innate aggression and with video games, that aggression can either be exhausted and would trigger passive aggression (meaning they don't elicit the aggression since they've exhausted all of it on the game)
or
They elicit it as it is something they have acquired acquired.
I friends that are addicted to computer games. They play 6-8 hours a day. What can I do to help them? What can society do as a whole to fix this growing problem?
They will usually outplay it because it is probably a new game. But if it's not and has been going on for a while ask them if they want to go to the movies or tell them straight to their face that they play too much and should hang out more. It will work

It's good that you know you are addictive to a game (World of WarCraft). You can't really give it up, it's your hobbie. What you can try is set a time period you can play.
example, weekday: 5 to 7, weekend: only play after I finish this work.
Right now, I am hooked on World of WarCraft, and I will not give up cuz it's too good to give up.
My boyfriend plays alot of his computer game (10 hours a day, approx.) And i was wondering if theres any actual symptoms of the video game addiction? If so, what are they, besides the obvious, of playing alot, and neglecting houswork/school work, any others? Thanks!
he did quit his job about a month ago.... (a day before his game came out) but he goes to school at night time, but he normally doesnt go to all of them... only one or two of them and then comes home.
10 hours a day sounds a bit extreme. only other ones i can think of is neglect to family and friends, everyday activities such as bathing and eating, and not working or doing school, or any work for that matter by choosing to play the game instead. damn. tell him "Playing video games wont feed our future baby!" lol jk. tell him to get a job as a video game tester. he'll love that and it pays up to 80 an hour!
