Recently, I have been addicted to being on the computer. It's a bad thing because my grades in school keep lowering. I can't study because it gets boring and I get on the computer. What should I do?
I had the same problem, except mine was to a specific game. I realized I needed to quit if I wanted to bring my grades back up.
I uninstalled the game, deleted all of the files, broke the disc and threw out the instruction booklet.
Needless to say, several years later, I still miss it and think about it often, but if I never quit I wouldn't have all of the wonderful things I have today.
I quit cold-turkey, but not everyone can do that...and you can't really just destroy your computer.
You can find another hobby to take up and commit youself to it. If you are in school join a club that meets once a week, or make plans to hang out with your friends. Or if you live in a city just go for a walk and discover some places you never found before.
Or get together with a friend and play video games. That way you can still do something computer-ish and socialize at the same time.

Take a sticky note, write down your tuiton cost and stick it somewhere on your laptop where you can see it (but it won't be incredibly bothersome).
You only have one semester to go, no need to waste more money paying tuition for another semester because you failed this one.
Are there any studies showing a relationship between masturbation addiction or even computer addiction related to the medicine adderall? Thanks!
Just like any addiction..once you start and do it constantly......stopping can be mind bending.....I don't think the meds, masterbation and computers has any link....unless the meds stimulate you and you end up on the internet to masterbate.
Reasons to believe computer addiction (or what i believe it to be if you have it)
- Spends all after school time on computer
- Falls back in school because they don't do homework or study
- Looses track of time when on computer (gets on at 3 pm, checks time regularly but feels like it suddenly is 2 am, which it is)
- Feels more comfortable, confident, secure and at peace at computer
- Sometimes looses closeness with friends because virtual friends/internet gets in the way
- Would rather spend time on computer than experience life
- When not near computer and unoccupied, has the urge to get online or check email on phone
- Can literally sit at the computer basically doing nothing but doesn't want to get off.
- Plans weekends around/about computer for all day.
So is this a sign of computer addiction? If so, besides getting help what can you do to help yourself.
Btw, saying 'get off the computer' isn't an answer. Seriously, it's harder than you would think and i need some tricks or methods to steadily get myself to go on the computer for an hour or two and limit myself without the craving.
If this is a computer addiction, then I definately have one!
I "lose time" on the computer constantly. At school all the websites I normally use are filtered, so sometimes I will walk home during the day to check my emails for 10 minutes and then walk all the way back again!
You're not alone. I wish I had the answer for you... sometimes I cancel on real life friends to chat on messanger...hey, maybe you should add me so I'll always have someone to talk to. I don't think it would do much for our computer addictions, though.

Symptoms of bComputer Addiction/b
One of the most pressing, and first, signs of computer addiction is when a person displays mood swings, anger and irritability when away from the computer. Often this person will feel they are dying to get back to the computer, and all other life situations become insignificant. Whether it is a computer game or internet addiction, the person can seem completely preoccupied and focused on nothing else besides getting back online. Once this computer addiction symptom sets in, it is an almost confirmed sign that a person is addicted to the computer. This is a big computer addiction symptom and one of the first tell tale signs. Computer addicts may completely forget about their offline friends in favor of forming online relationships. It may even reach the extent that they cut themselves off from their family as well. It is a tragic time when this happens, and it points out that the computer addict needs to seek professional help as they are showing severe computer addiction symptoms. The computer...

However, the research, of more than 500 adults, reinforced other images of technology addicts by finding that they were fatter and more depressed than the general population and reliant on the internet for finding friends.
Investigators from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Emory University and Andrews University analysed survey data from people ranging in age from 19 to 90 in the Seattle-Tacoma area on health risks, media use and perceptions, including those related to video-game playing; and demographic factors.
They found measurable correlations between video-game playing and health risks.
Participants reported whether they were players or non-players, and weekly usage was collected.
