Looking for any information on how to successfully recover from crack cocaine addiction.
Personal experiences, public statistics, treatment referrals, resources sites, information on medication...any input is appreciated.

It is very difficult to do on your own. A very close person to me was a crack addict, has been to rehab more than once and it was the only way to make him stop for a while. He is off it now and I hope he stays that way. He used "Rivea" for a while, a medicine to block the receptors of cocaine effect and I think he was on anti-depressants too.

Does anyone have any experience with using electroconvulsive treatment (shock therapy) for addiction?
Does anyone have any experience or information about Electroconvulsive Therapy (shock treatment) being used for addiction?
I'm not looking for other treatment suggestions, please just answer my question.

I've never heard of ECT being used for cocaine dependence. I thought it was used primarily in severe mood disorders and catatonic schizophrenia for people who haven't responded to medication.

My cousin has a serious addiction to crack cocaine. It has come to the time where she needs rehabilitation. She lives in Florida but has family in Illinois. Does anyone know of a good rehabilitation place (in-patient) in Florida or in Illinois where she can go for treatment? Thank you.

Totally get her out of Florida. She is in her element there and needs to get away from an area where she knows how to score dope. Try Iowa, close enough to Illinois for people to visit.

p.s. She will only do as well as she wants to do though. The addiction is a mental one, and while getting it out of your system is quick, the thought process will always be there. Anytime she is bored or down the total abandonment of caring about life that coke and crack gives will try to call her back.

Sheesh. If you read the Wikipedia article, you know exactly why it isn't approved in the USA. It has potentially fatal brain & heart toxicity, and there isn't enough profit in it for a drug company to put up funding for further FDA trials.

COVINGTON KY - A 30-year-old Covington woman who taught a juvenile how to smoke crack cocaine was sentenced to five years behind bars Monday.

A lawyer for Tasha Simpson had argued that her client - a mother of seven children by six fathers - should get probation. She asked that Simpson be allowed to enter a residential drug-treatment program for women in Lexington to deal with her addictions.

Is this what our welfare dollars are paying for? Also seven children by six different fathers at 30 years old. Doesn't this scream of a typical welfare mother who should be ordered onto forced birth control? This is outrageous.

Thank you LBJ. This is an illustration of how the welfare system has failed. While there are many who are in the system who are deserving help, this woman obviously wasted her chance.
Personally, I would never have lowered the original charge. She should spend as much time behind bars as possible.
She has already ruined her children's lives by indulging in illegal behavior and then compounds the problem in teaching one how to smoke crack. This is unforgivable.
How are her offspring going to be when they reach her age? Are they going to be productive law abiding citizens? From the standard she has already set, I would expect they would follow in the footsteps of the mother.
It's too bad the Liberal welfare state can't understand or see what it's done to those who need help.
Yes, we do need change. However, it's not the change Obama or Hillary, or even McCain are promising.
