Cocaine addiction?

Im getting worried about a friend of mine's behaviour.
Can anybody help me out? How many times do you have to take cocaine to become addicted? and what are the symptoms?

also? how can i confront my mate about it? i know they will certainly deny it.

Ok first off you need to show your friend that your are WILLING to help them and that you will not be mad at them.

everyone gets addicted diffrently. so no one can be sure to how much it takes it the chemical balance in thier body.

But if your friend is in that and is getting addicted to it, its very imortant to show tem that you care, hat their not alone in this world and you are very much willing to get them threw this.

*good luck

thanx a lot !!!

Withdrawal is only a few hours after taking it for last time.
it doesnt cause physical addiction but rather mental- you like the way you feel on it and want to experience it again.
the best thing to do for those few hours is distracting yourself - watch tv, walk around, eat something, drink lots of water etc.

What does the [sic]'s mean in this next paragraph?

We had important jobs on what was then the largest private construction project in the world [i.e., Walt Disney World], and many of us blew off steam after work most days. One night I broke up a fight at Horne's between one of my guys and a construction worker. The construction guy took off, and I asked my guy what the problem was.
He said the construction worker said that Walt Disney had been a cocaine addict. He said the proof was that Walt Disney had invented Snow White and the Seven Dwarves [sic]. Snow White was cocaine, and the seven dwarves were the symptoms of various stages of cocaine addiction: Grumpy, Sleepy, Grouchy [sic], Dopey, Sneezy, Happy, and so forth.3
I read it off this website that sorts out true and false urban legends: http://www.snopes.com

sic is added when the person who wrote it made a spelling or grammar mistake. It is added in translation so people know that it's not a typo.

why is cocaine illegal but caffeine isnt?

They both have similiar effects, in fact the only real difference I can see is that pure cocaine is slightly more toxic than pure caffeine. 3-4 cups of strong coffee back to back is enough to kill you or at least cause serious intoxication. The reason most people dont die from caffeine is that its not given out in pure form as cocaine is. I dont want to hear that cocaine is dangerous or addictive because caffeine is just as addictive and people show similiar withdrawal symptoms.

The thing most people dont realize about cocaine is that the form found on the streets is highly concentrated pure cocaine hydroxide...PURE things will cause bad effects and addiction...the actual coca leaf only contains 0.2% cocaine hydrochloride which is not an effective dose. The same as if you took a bottle of Everclear(90-proof pure alcohol) and tried to drink it you would die...is the same as if u took pure cocaine and tried to consume excess quantities. The danger is not in the drug but the dosage.
The intensity is caused by the concentrated product of cocaine hydrochloride though. We cant go and buy concentrated, pure caffeine. The coca leaf itself is not dangerous and would give a legal outlet for impoverished farmers in south america to sell their product.
Oh yea..and as the guy below me said...all the street violence would end if these drugs were legal. Pfizer and other drug companies would take over their distribution and there would be no money to be made in selling the drugs on the streets.

Caffeine was almost outlawed at the same time that cocaine was (1914), and for the same reasons. The reason that cocaine was outlawed was because of the fear that superhuman Negro Cocaine Fiends would go on a violent rampage and rape white women and shoot white men. Police departments across the nation switched to larger caliber pistols in fear of the Negro Cocaine Fiends. There was a huge deal of ignorance and hysteria about drugs at the time and, when the first drug prohibition laws were first crafted (circa 1910), caffeine was included along with cocaine. The only reason caffeine escaped being illegal along with cocaine is because someone pointed out that outlawing caffeine would mean outlawing coffee, tea, and chocolate, among other things.

You can find some excellent historical research on the early laws at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/history.htm

bCocaine Addiction Symptoms/b and Signs

This notorious white powder that cocaine is has its origins in leaves derived from the South American coca plant. Leaves that were being freely used by the Mayans for their stimulating qualities became known to Europe following Spain's conquest of that continent.

Described as a stimulant, cocaine can be ingested in many ways, be it smoking, injection into the veins, or what is called snorting via the nose. No matter how it is consumed, its effects of this highly addictive drug are the same. However, it is known that no fewer than 90 percent of the people who use it do so occasionally; it is only the remaining 10 percent that are known to be addicts, or those who use it at a frequency that is equal to or exceeds once a week.

Effects of cocaine addiction: In the short run, the effects a cocaine addict feels on the body are unreasonable irritability, excitability to the extreme, uncontrollable restlessness and difficulty in sleeping. In the next state, the cocaine addict experiences fretfulness, anxiety even when there is no reason for it and importantly, delusions in the sensory perceptions and a feeling that insects crawl on the surface of the skin.

Cocaine drug addiction side effects can be quite noticeable and symptoms of using this harmful drug will vary depending on a few factors but have led to the death of many users worldwide. Although most users snort the substance through the nose to take it there are others who may smoke it as crack or inject it directly into their bloodstream and often mixed with other substances making a cocktail of sorts. This substance must not be underestimated as to how harmful and destructive it can actually be on the users life and to those around them.

One of the immediate side effects of taking the drug cocaine is a sudden burst of energy with symptoms of the pulse quickening rapidly. Although this rush can last for up to 30 minutes in a user taking a line, the danger is that they crave more of it afterwards. If more is not taken, the user starts ‘coming down’ and symptoms of this include feeling edgy, irritable and depression usually hits. The side effects of someone taking cocaine for the long term will often result in a form of serious depression as the users body cannot be satisfied by the dosages any more, often resulting in a serious overdose and in many reported cases worldwide, death.
