Do you think that praying is an addiction?
Slovenskofant Demonstrates Health and Safety in Slovenia

Instead of turning to alcohol or durgs when stressed, christians turn to praying. doesn't it kind of seem like an addiction? I had a dream where i was arguing with a christian and i made this point and it shut them up.

I guess it could be...but what is the harm, so long as it doesn't prevent them from functioning? There are no physical costs, it is free to pray, it's something you can do WITH your family...

FYI, this point would NEVER shut me up...it was just a dream!

Is addiction real?
Teen Challenge Video Screen Grab

Alcohol addiction, Internet addiction, sex addiction, video game addiction, porn addiction, TV addiction, drug addiction, gamling addiction, Pokemon addiction?

Are these things real in the sense that the "addicted" person just can't control themselves from quitting their job to watch Pokemon all day or from gambling away little Susie's insulin money? Or do these people simply lack self control and need to stop make excuses for themselves? Does religion (or lack thereof) offer a solution for addicts?

Christian Bonus Question: If an addict their abehavior, will they go to hell for it?
Sorry, that should say, "If an addict can't control their behavior, do they go to hell?"

Tucking fypos.

Yes, its real. Some things are physical addictions (like cocaine) and some are mental addictions (like the internet).

Religions isn't a solution to an addicts problems though many adopt a religion to convince others that they've changed their ways.

How do I know this? I have an ex brother in law thats an addict and dealer. He's been in and out of prison 5 times but keeps saying "I haven't done it in a month...", "I haven't done it in two months..", "I'm Christian now and have learned the error of my ways" and then he goes back to prison yet again.

After years of dealing with him and his disgusting buddies, I've learned not to trust a word any of those liars say.

The chances of religion actually changing them are remote. They're all lying so they look better.

But how many times do you have to get burned before you realize they're lying through their teeth?

After all these years, I've learned better. This sounds horrible to say but I hope he overdoses one day. It would solve alot of problems for everyone, including him.

Christians - what are your reasons for not drinking alcohol? - that's if you don't!?
Teen Challenge Video Screen Grab

My own reasons are:
1. It can be a stumbling block to a newly converted Christian who
might have had addiction to alcohol in the past.
2. It is the appearance of evil
3. I work with recovering alcoholics, and therefore want to set an
example.
4. I have seen the devastation that alcohol can bring to people,
even people in my own family, that I have come to abhor it.
5. I want my home to be a safe refuge for people to enter, especially
those who I work alongside.
6. I want to set others' an example of me having and fun and
enjoyment without having to drink alcohol.
7. I would prefer to drink a cup of coffee!
Lol!!!

I don't want to yield my will to anyone or anything other than Jesus Christ. Alcohol takes over the good judgment of the person drinking and allows satan to control one's behavior.

Romans 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

And these of yours:
1. It can be a stumbling block to a newly converted Christian who
might have had addiction to alcohol in the past.
2. It is the appearance of evil

4. I have seen the devastation that alcohol can bring to people,
even people in my own family, that I have come to abhor it.

6. I want to set others' an example of me having and fun and
enjoyment without having to drink alcohol.

Are all addictions considered a sin, even something trivial?
Jesus Saved Me #1

I happen to have a caffeine addiction. Mountain Dew and coffee are my big weaknesses. I get headaches and jittery when I don't get enough caffeine in a day.
It doesn't really bother me too much. I enjoy my caffeine and i have no desire to end this addiction.
I am a christian and I recently learned that addictions are sins. So I was wondering if anyone knows if that applies to all addictions, just things like drugs alcohol sex, etc,?

Thanks for your opinions.

Sin is defined as something a deity deems improper.

So not all addictions are sins. They only qualify if your god thinks them bad behavior. I doubt caffeine 'addiction' qualifies.

Have I failed as a Christian?
Jesus Saved Me #2

when i go to church i feel so clean, so loved and refreshed, like the worlds weight has been lifted from me, however, the painful addiction to alcohol and other substances which i suffer have kept me from church and i feel like i am a failure...

i ask myself which is more important to me and i know what is. god, but i cant overpower the alcohol. am i still loved?

Sound like you have a forgiveness problem.
Jesus taught that God accepts us as we are.
Thankfully, Christ died so that he was our mediator!
Remember that God allows everything on earth to be here.
Everything was made by God, and nothing exists without him.
In all things, give thanks to God.
Do not do anything to excess.
So long as you are not violating someone Else's rights, liberties, or other wise, creating a stumbling block for others, that you are free to do what you want, when you want, why you want.
Anything you do to yourself, you will answer to God for.
When you can make that peace with yourself, you will have learned a lesson in forgiveness.
Then the power of alcohol will be the power of Gods love instead.
