I was just wondering about this since many smokers I know are also heavy drinkers. Are the two habits interrelated? Would undergoing treatment for alcoholism also banish the individual's habit for smoking?

Alcohol consumption and smoking are actually interrelated. The person's intake of nicotine happens to increase one's craving for alcohol and alcohol boosts the effects of smoking. This explains why smokers are usually drinkers too. If the person is really dependent upon alcohol and cigarettes, addiction treatment is needed. However, treating just alcoholism does not mean that the smoking will go away too. Treating both simultaneously will be the best way to go as treating only one of the two only ups the chances of relapse.

Please guys if you have any idea do share..I need to know how good is Muktangan de-addiction centre in Pune. What percentage(roughly) of people who get admitted there are able to get rid of their alcohol addiction.I need to know this for the treatment of my uncle who is an alcoholic.Would reallly appreciate your help!!

"De-addiction" might a word one might apply to drugs. But alcohol is not a drug and alcoholism is not an addiction. (Even though there are hundreds of PAID "Addictions" professionals who want us to believe so)

Alcoholism is a mental obsession - a form of insanity, combined with a physical allergy which causes uncontrollable craving Nothing more - nothing less.

If it were simply an addiction - the problem would be solved once a good seventy-two hour withdrawal from the alcohol had passed.

There is no known cure for the physical allergy that causes craving once alcohol enter the body, but full recovery from the mental obsession is possible - thereby breaking the terrible cycle and solving the problem - through spiritual awakening as the result of the Twelve Steps or some other such spiritual solution.

It is only through spiritual methods that the obsession has ever been removed . In other words, divine intervention.

You don't have to go to Pune, Minnesota or NYC and let people take your money for that. There is no solve through any known human aid. Only folks selling "services" who want you to think so. Sorry.

The good news is that recovered alcoholics - people like me - help other alcoholics recover and expect NOTHING in return. And our method works where all others have failed.

I haven't seen my mom in five years. She left with nary a goodbye. A few weeks ago, I heard from an old neighbor of ours that my mom is spending her time in an addiction treatment center in Ewing due to her alcoholism. I plan on combing through all the treatment centers in Ewing just so I could find her. Please help.

I do hope that you find her. However, I'm not sure if addiction treatment centers will be willing to disclose whether your mom is there or not. Or, you can go to the nearest hospital and ask a doctor or healthcare provider for recommendations. I hope your son gets treated soon, it's always tough, but he can get through it. We've always been close and it never occurred to me that she might someday get addicted to alcohol. She was always the one who shied away from the "bad" stuff. Now she regrets having succumbed to the throes of alcoholism. She's asking for my help in finding the right addiction treatment center for her. How will I do this?
