What is the Holistic Approach to Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment and Recovery?

I heard some kids in school talking about a holistic approach in relation to drug and alcohol addiction. Does anybody know more about it? I'm just interested.

I think it's a special program given to people who are suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction. They provide treatment and services to help the patient recover faster. There's a website about the Holistic Approach. I added the link below. It's really informative.

Are there low costs or no costs long term residential treatment centers for drug and alcohol addictions?

Friends of mine have an adult child who has already been through short term drug and alcohol rehab (2 weeks to 30 days) treatments, only to relapse. He needs longer term treatment to address the psychological problems associated with addiction; but like millions of other Americans he has no insurance.

Is anyone aware of any long term treatment centers that may help him?

Having just had a loved one go through this I know it can be incredibly tough. I do know that there are programs in Southern California that are long term - I believe that one is called Sobriety House in Orange County - that are truly not for profit and really do have long term - a year or so - and are very strict. You have to take the MMPI (Minnasota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) and go through significant testing first, but it is free. The other thing is that - and this is really sad - court ordered drug treatment is usually done at no cost. If this person hits bottom and ends up in the system they may be in a better position to get help. The family can't save him if he won't help himself. I would also call the county to ask about resources. Good luck, I know that it can be incredibly tough.

do you think the addiction to cigarettes should be addressed when the person is in alcohol/drug treatment?

Most alcohol and drug treatment centers do not allow smoking within the center itself any longer. It is an awful lot for an addict to have to do everything all at once. Not being allowed to smoke inside at least cuts the smoking down some. But, no I do not think the addiction to cigarettes is something that should be enforced at this particular time. It is too much to give up everything at once. If the addict wants to quit it is the perfect time for them as they are learning to control addictive behaviors, and can apply what they are learning to the cigarettes.

How can I locate an alcohol addiction treatment center within Ventura, California?

My childhood friend begged me to help him find one since he is a self confessed drug dependent and he wants to change for good. Please, help me...:(

Well, aside from establishing contact with the nearest health clinic or accompanying your friend to a specialist for proper consultation, you can simply check out the links below and see what they have in store for you and your friend. I honestly wish you'll have the help that you are looking for.

Good luck!

Is drug addiction treatment really effective?

What does it do? I was just wondering since a cousin of mine is undergoing this kind of treatment and I want to know what difference it will make aside from making him stop taking drugs and alcohol.

Well, the goal of addiction treatment, aside from making the individual go into abstinence, is to bring back the productivity of the patient-- be it in the workplace, family, or community. According to studies, drug addiction treatment significantly reduces drug use and decreases criminal activity. It also reduces the risk of HIV infection. Treatment can also improve chances of getting employment.

However, though this generally holds true, the addiction treatment's success is still dependent upon the patient himself. He has to actively engage in the treatment and have the will to change in order to recover more quickly and make the addiction treatment a success.
