Alcohol addiction, Internet addiction, sex addiction, video game addiction, porn addiction, TV addiction, drug addiction, gamling addiction, Pokemon addiction?
Are these things real in the sense that the "addicted" person just can't control themselves from quitting their job to watch Pokemon all day or from gambling away little Susie's insulin money? Or do these people simply lack self control and need to stop make excuses for themselves? Does religion (or lack thereof) offer a solution for addicts?
Christian Bonus Question: If an addict their abehavior, will they go to hell for it?
Sorry, that should say, "If an addict can't control their behavior, do they go to hell?"
Tucking fypos.
Yes, its real. Some things are physical addictions (like cocaine) and some are mental addictions (like the internet).
Religions isn't a solution to an addicts problems though many adopt a religion to convince others that they've changed their ways.
How do I know this? I have an ex brother in law thats an addict and dealer. He's been in and out of prison 5 times but keeps saying "I haven't done it in a month...", "I haven't done it in two months..", "I'm Christian now and have learned the error of my ways" and then he goes back to prison yet again.
After years of dealing with him and his disgusting buddies, I've learned not to trust a word any of those liars say.
The chances of religion actually changing them are remote. They're all lying so they look better.
But how many times do you have to get burned before you realize they're lying through their teeth?
After all these years, I've learned better. This sounds horrible to say but I hope he overdoses one day. It would solve alot of problems for everyone, including him.

Where can I find a video on alcohol, effects, and addiction, how to quit, I need it for my project. Can someone give me a link online, but not like youtube video, it should be about about 20 minutes.
most police stations have these free for the public or some video stores do.
I would like to know what it takes to finally make a person realize that they are addicted to a video game. Its not like alcohol or drugs where its obvious to everyone around you so what would make a person finally choose to stop. And what is the best method of quitting? Cold turkey, in stages...?
Cold turkey. That's the best way to quit anything, and people will disagree with me, but that the only way most people will ever stop using drugs or alcohol. People can be addicted to all kinds of things. If you were a sex addict, would you want someone telling you that you could have sex 2 times a week and then 1 times a week, and then 2 times a month and so on. No, you would either want to stoop or keep doing it. And yes, video games are addicting because they don't require much action and they glaze the brain over. Also, people become addicted because they are bored, just like over eaters. Some people play video games to escape. The best way to make them realize is to make them stop. Take away the controller and the box and see how they do.

Which do you think is the worst kind of addiction to have?

It's less harmful then cigerates and alcohol, it could replace up too 10-20% of prescription drugs, it kills less brain cells then diet coke, its on the same level of addiction as video games, you feel high 1/2 the time you would feel drunk and you dont get a hangover from it when you actually feel better the next day and its natural so why are marijuana users being called druged out losers?
If you believe it should be legal, then I agree with you. It is much less harmful that the prescription drugs it could replace. And it relieves pain that nothing else will and helps glaucoma. Please drop the bit about diet coke and brain cells. You want to be as honest as you can, and your evidence is too weak. It makes you sound like a drugged out loser to most people. I wouldn't use it myself. If you think it is free of side effects, you are wrong. Please be careful what you say about addiction, because it is much stronger in some people, and much weaker in others.
There is an important freedom issue involved here also.
The trick to changing the viewpoint is to keep it from being demonized by telling the absolute truth about it.

Kevin was a twenty-nine-year-old carpenter who was starting to experience some of the effects of his abusive and irresponsible drinking. He reasoned that he could spend fifteen or twenty minutes on the Internet, find some quick facts, information, and statistics about alcoholism and alcohol abuse, and then see if he was addicted to alcohol or mainly an alcohol abuser. In all candor, Kevin was impressed with the amount of alcohol-related information he found online, and he immediately found himself interested with the websites that reviewed some of the more conventional symptoms of alcoholism. What were some of the symptoms of alcoholism that Kevin identified with? First, his important relationships were deteriorating the more he drank. Second, he had a hard time getting the thoughts of drinking out of his mind. Third, virtually every negative issue in his life started to annoy him more often than usual. Fourth, he frequently felt depressed. Fifth, he often experienced hangovers, namely, an inability to remember what he said or did the night before when he was drinking. And sixth, he noticed that he was starting to lose interest in some of his favorite after work activities such as playing video games, working on his truck, and playing his guitar. Other symptoms of alcoholism that Kevin exhibited were the following. First, in the past eight or nine weeks he has been showing poor decision-making skills and poor judgment at work. Second, he noticed that most of the money he had in his savings account was gone because his excessive drinking was so costly. Third, he was drinking more heavily than any other time in his life. And fourth, for the first time in his life he was having a real difficult time getting to sleep at night. When Kevin arrived at the family physician's office, the first thing he stated when he saw his physician was the concern he had about his abusive drinking. When his physician asked what was setting off this anxiety, Kevin stated that he had gone online and read about different alcohol-related statistics and facts and found out that he exhibited quite a few of the more typical symptoms of alcoholism. When the physician asked him to explain what symptoms he was referring to, Kevin reached in his front pocket, took out a piece of paper, and read the total list of alcoholism symptoms that he thought he displayed. The physician emphasized to Kevin how smart it was for him to make an appointment so he could discuss his drinking problem. The doctor then gave Kevin an extensive physical exam, asked him some alcohol-related questions, and suggested that it would be a good thing if he went to see Dr. Nelson, one of his associate doctors who was a drug and alcohol addiction specialist. When Kevin emphasized the fact that he had been feeling down in the dumps the past few months, the physician told Kevin that depression and alcohol addiction often take place in the same person. Consequently, the doctor thought it would be a good idea for Kevin to get counseling at the mental health clinic located across the street so that he could address his depression. Understandably Kevin did not want to face the thought of registering in an alcohol treatment program. Nor was he happy about going to a counselor to work on his depression. Regardless of these valid concerns, however, Kevin truly experienced some psychological relief for the first time in nearly a year due to the fact that he refrained from making excuses for himself and with determination made up his mind that he needed to do something productive about his depression and his drinking issues.
