I wanted to quit yesterday and earlier today but tonight I would like a drink. I know it's an addiction and recognize that it has been costing me my grades and money. Is there a clinic in Souther California I can stay at?
The 12 steps are to help you stop drinking, but once an alcoholic, for ever an alcoholic. The addiction to alcohol won't disappears because you stop drinking. Once you are out from drinking you most be eyes wide opened to avoid a re-fall. If you call information they may tell the closest place to your house or a AAA center.

I know of someone in my family who had the treatment and paid $12,500.00 dollars for it. It DOES NOT WORK!!
Sorry that PROMETA did not work for your relative.
Addiction is hard to kick and requires constant commitment, I don't believe there are magic pills that make it easy. PROMETA is a potential help-aid but is still in test trials and not FDA approved yet. As you mention not all treatments work for all people...
You can call the PROMETA Helpline toll free at 1-866-321-6558 to ask why the product failured. All calls are strictly confidential.
We're really plumb out of money, but I also need to get my husband treated for his alcoholism. I fear that if I don't put him inside an alcohol rehab soon, he'll get worse. He's gotten more violent lately, and I just don't want this to continue on. Help please.
It's really sad when someone gets alcoholism. You're right, there's a possibility that it will get worse. You can inquire about getting grants. One of the links below have information regarding this. Below is also a list of addiction treatment centers in your area. You can contact them and ask them whether they will be willing to give you a discount or allow you to pay off the bills at a later date. I feel for you and I'll keep your family in my prayers.
Since over 95% of alcohol treatment is based on AA, I'd lump the first two together.
I'd suggest therapy, but you need to be careful, many are what's known as "two-hatters", a person who uses their position to be an active recruiter for 12step programs.
I'd also suggest you read "Rational Recovery" by Jack Trimpey. I'm not a fan of Trimpey, but many have had success using his methods.
Ultimately, it's up to you whether you quit or not.
