I want to help my love with her drug and alcohol addiction problems, but I don't know how?
man experiencing some problems with alcohol addiction

I'm twenty and she's nineteen, and she feels like she messed up so bad and a loser, but she can't break the habits. I'm comforting her, saying that no matter what she does, I'll always be happy with her and I don't want to make her feel bad, at all.

But I'm so worried for her, extremely worried. I don't want her to die!

She won't talk to her parents about this (she's worried they have too much stress already), but I was thinking I would anonymously call them anyway and tell them, even though she might be in trouble. I haven't met her parents.

I posted this in the "Marriage and Divorce" section because I was hoping to get some replies from mature adults. I really don't know what to do, and I love her so much and I just won't give up on her. That's not what a man does...
She DOES want help! She's been off of it for a while, and now last night she gave in...she feels miserable inside

I konw its a cliche but you cant help someone who doesnt want help. I know it hurts to see someone you love so much doing these horrible things and feeling like there is nothing you can do. I would call her parents and just keep on telling her how much you love her and want her to stop. I know it sucks but if she continues down this road she will eventually drag you down with her. Im so sorry you have to cope with this you may want to look into Alanon to develop some coping skills. But it is true she wont stop because you want her to or for any other reason for that matter. She wont stop until she wants to which usually requires hitting "rock bottom" she cant do that while you are holding her up. I understand how you feel my mother was a drug addict who left her children to live that life. She was in & out of prison my whole life I used to pray and wish that she would miss me so much that she would stop. Im 31 now and my mom has been clean for 1 year. So be prepared for a long battle and dont forget why you love her in the first place. You do have to intervene somehow you are not helping sitting back wondering what to do. Like I said call her parents and get her help while she is stilll young enough(hopefully) to take it.

How long does alcohol addiction last?
man experiencing some problems with alcohol, conceptual shot

I've had alcohol problem and i quit drinking months ago, but i'm still getting cravings. I thought once you go cold turkey these feelings would stop after a matter of weeks! How long does it usually take for an addiction to go before you can start drinking again?

You can't. An addiction like this is something you can learn to control, but never get rid of. If you ever drink again, it is most likely that you will succumb to your addiction again and end up where you were all those months ago. You may feel those cravings on and off for the rest of your life.

When you do a program like Alcoholics Anonymous, they explain all of this to you. Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic, whether you ever touch the booze again or not. Your choice is between being a non-drinking alcoholic or not. Unfortunately, you can't just wait for the addiction to pass, like a cold, and then go back to your old ways and not expect to still be addicted.

I'd advise you to get help, if you're having trouble staying sober.

alcohol addiction?
Heroin Addiction.

I am scared i have an alcohol problem. I didn't used to drink much, but i have been drinking nearly everyday for about 4 months, and i have not drunk for 3 days and feel sick have a headache, feel anxious, and feelings like cravings.

When will this go away? I want to stop drinking.

please only serious answers

thank you.

Don't worry, you seem to be going through what is known as "uncomplicated withdrawal" (no delirium). It usually peaks on the second day and lasts only a few days. The most common symptom is tremor. Also nausea and vomiting. Symptoms of autonomic overactivity (sweating, rapid heartbeat, etc.) also present. Brief hallucinations may occur. After 48-72h (after last drink), even seizures may occur in some patients. Seems to me like you have already weathered the worst. You may have persistent irritability, anxiety and sleeplessness for some time. Go see a doctor if it interferes with your life, pills will help.
Nice job recognizing your drinking problem and stopping, and good luck.

If one does not have the genetic inclination for alcohol addiction, is there a separate genetic inclination?
Heroin Addiction.

for drug addiction? In other words, is it possible to be addictive towards drugs and not have a problem with alcohol addiction?

I'd be inclined to say yes that there may very well be two diffent Genetic inclinations.
But I think the inclination is one of trying
to bury ones depression/problems in SOMETHING
not necessarily alcohol, drugs, sex, ect...

According to the Scottish Sun, one in every 264 newborns in Scotland now suffer withdrawal symptoms as a result of junkie mums abusing deadly substances from heroin to cannabis.

One in every 98 pregnant mums have admitted that they put their unborn child’s life at risk by taking drugs during pregnancy, new figures unearthed by us show.

Scots Labour leader Iain Gray called for junkies who shoot up in front of their kids to have their children taken off them.

“If a child is fending for themselves to survive, and people around them are having sex and taking drugs in front of them, I think that is not an acceptable way for the child to be living,” the Sun quoted Gray as saying.

“At the heart of the existing system is a presumption that it is better for the children to be with their mother and their birth family. That is wrong,” he added.
